We’re excited to announce DiG-bench, a new benchmark for discovery! Over the last few weeks we’ve been testing frontier AI models on our novel discovery games and seeing how they score. Each game is a text-based environment, so they probe discovery capabilities in the natural domain of language models, rather than requiring additional, potentially confounding, visual understanding. TL;DR frontier models have improved a lot over the last few months. But they are still stumped by some surprisingly simple problems, even in their native text domain. Grateful, honored, and motivated to become the next President of the Complex Systems Society @CompSysSoc. Looking forward to contribute its purpose: "to promote the development of all aspects of complex systems science among the whole international scientific community". This will be possible only through collaboration: The society is more than the sum of its talented members. Photo by @HirokiSayama

This is the cool science that happens when you mix system scientists with biologists and medical doctors ⏩ discovery of new drivers for human diseases. Interdisciplinary Science #ftw! Long 🧵 alert, read it from the top.
Replying to @germcells
And that’s a wrap! This study was a tour de force involving collabs all over the 🌍. Massive propz to all of them, especially to our 3 intrepid first-authors @rionbr, @almeidajoana2 and @MargotWyrwoll, as well as to 2 exceptional ECRs: @IreneJulca and @ChandraS_Misra.

Os media em Portugal ainda não aprenderam a lidar com candidatos bully. O formato dos debates favorece quem fala mais alto e interrompe o outro; a superficialidade dos temas e o pouco tempo faz com que a lacração seja mais importante do que as propostas. #legislativas2024

I'm grateful for great colleagues. I would never have expected to contribute to such amazing biological mysteries: ▶️
Today, we will be tackling one of the great mysteries of biology: why are gorillas so bad at producing sperm? This was the challenge that mastermind @DevoEvoMed issued to a panel of experts (and to yr beloved @germcells as well 🤪). Want to know more? Let’s get this 🧵 rolling…

Academia at its best, oblivious to its very own management science on what knowledge-intensive enterprises need (not) to do to thrive. 🤦‍♂️
Today the lab was greeted by innocuous appearing white adapters plugged in lab bays and offices. We inquired and learned the university is monitoring 'occupancy', i.e. when we are/are not in. Be on the lookout! Big brother is watching!👀

Great scientists (personally & professionally) I've met, or read about it from early eras, are artists of a craft in their own fields. Academia has become a hostile environment for their creativity and art. You will be happier and your craft will flourish elsewhere friend. 🎉
