.@HHShkMohd approves Dubai Walk Master Plan to transform Dubai into a year-round pedestrian-friendly city.
This is crazy! 😤
So, this afternoon I got home to find a lovely letter from @northernassist telling me about how they wanted to prosecute me for using the below ticket to travel on the specified route at a peak time.
I paid £1.90 less than the fare they say I should have paid.
A thread 🧵

Cruella Braverman and the Tories have successfully continued to cause division resulting in scenes like this on what is meant to be a weekend for reflection. Shame on you #ToriesOut #ToriesBrokeBritain – at Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Private sector investment in Euston sorted. 🙄
Thank you to passengers for your patience while we have had scaffolding in the station.
We have started to take it down.
Coming soon, replacement advertising screen for partners @JCDecaux_UK

ALT Image shows an empty station concourse at Euston with the small departure screen in the centre of the image. To the back of the image, a section of a large screen has been revealed now scaffolding has been removed but it is blank and not showing any content (black screen) To the right of the image is a scaffolding tower, orange at the bottom and blue at the top, with two track workers on a box ladder in full orange clothing and hard hats, working on the scaffolding.

Overlaying the HS2+HS3 route with a map of population density in the UK (from a paper on air quality, but it sufficies for this purpose).
There are two main concentrations of population in the UK - London and its immediate surroundings, and the ring of Birmingham-Manchester-Leeds, which i'll refer to as the "North" here even though it encompasses some of the Midlands and not all of the actual North.
The only part of the whole network which is being built now is that which connects London to Birmingham; which will benefit Birmingham somewhat, but mostly will benefit commuters near London.
The cancelled part of the network would've bought the North closer to being able to function as a continuous economic unit. Manchester to Leeds in 25 minutes, Birmingham to Leeds in 46 minutes. A paranoid Northerner might suspect that politicians in London intentionally sabotaged such integration.
As it is, the government breathlessly announces that you will still be able to board high speed services on regular tracks, and they will only go high speed on the existing line (as if they just thought of the idea, and that wasn't already the plan during phase one anyway). So the trains will only serve to get people from the North to London and back. They are perhaps genuinely baffled as to why someone would board a train and not go to London.

Parliament spent over 1300 hours on legislation & scrutiny for HS2.
Yet Parliament played no role in the decision to scrap it, which was announced unilaterally by the PM at party conference.
So what does this mean for Parliament? New @HansardSociety blog

Spain has 16 high speed rail lines in operation, totalling 2,500 miles and linking most of its major cities
The British govt is about to cancel half of a 210 mile line linking its 1st, 2nd & 3rd largest cities

Just a reminder, the Govts own analysis showed an integrated HS2 and NPR would:
- Add £9bn to GMs economy each year
- Add £24bn a year to the Norths economy
- Create 96,000 jobs
- Improve capacity and connectivity
- Close the productivity gap with London
Levelling up is dead.
