“Higher education providers owe a duty of care to their students”
11-word text in legislation to ensure universities act responsibly.
I so admire Maggie and Bob Abrahart for holding out for a totally reasonable apology, before moving on with discussions.
It’s all so very sad
#Sorry seems to be the hardest word!
I don’t understand this @BristolUni?
How can a so-called ‘learning institution’ be so incapable of #learning?
So lacking in #compassion?
Lacking in #humanity?
And damaging its own reputation as it puts the blinkers on?

@ClaireCNWL in @PaulVittles at the conf you have a walking almanac of zero suicide endeavour. In the last 2 wks he's brought together 100s of the well informed committed, 1st ZS Trust, Ofsted change, Univ duty of care etc. You should grab him, now and get him into your NHS panel
Could reduce the 6500 lives lost to suicide per year by 30% in this Parliament by appointing a Zero Suicide Minister. Somebody like @PaulVittles, at the forefront of evidence based Zero Suicide. Maybe put in a word, @ClaireCNWL ?

Just heard from the @3dadswalking at today’s #ZSI5 conference. Standing ovation for the support they have given #suicideprevention. ‘I would rather answer some difficult questions from my children about suicide rather than give a eulogy at their funeral’ 💛
In the days when you could walk right up to the car, I remember being able to look at so much detail of the FW07 in front of its garage at Silverstone. It was beautifully superb, elegant but robust . . . it really did take my breath away!

You know what I'm going to say, Professor Rory O'Connor @suicideresearch , all this fine research and collaboration is noted - but 6,500 lives are, and have been, lost to suicide year in year out in the UK. What's your, personal plan to drive this to zero?
My latest @IASPinfo Presidential Message is now online together with the latest IASP activities in May's quarterly newsletter

I think that badge might be for Advanced Motorists!
What's the single most important thing, Rory @suicideresearch that would, say halve the 6,500 deaths by suicide that we see, year in year out?
As I recall (?) I was standing at the entry to Clearways at the British GP that year, first out for practice it was unfathomably quick - Terrific - So exciting !!!

Isn't it nearer 6,500 "nationally"?
So, a national newspaper thinks depicting a suicide method as political satire is amusing.
Possibly not for the 3000 families who every year have to deal with the unimaginable tragedy it represents.

Now stepping up a gear - on the road to a Zero Suicide Society - well worth watching this Webinar. Maybe a section a day.
And I'm so looking forward to taking part in the Scunthorpe Conference - which I'll be using towards the launch of a Zero Suicide Plan in the Black Country.

You know the reason @ProfLAppleby , it's because the Government doesn't have a strategy worthy of the name. Tell me, have you properly read Jordan Legacy's report, 'Moving Towards a Zero Suicide Society'? thejordanlegacy.com/moving-t…
Real-time suicide statistics released today, up to Dec 2023. Little evidence of change - figures tend to fall late in the year.
Importantly, no upward trend despite many facing economic adversity.
