If you were around during the Foundation days (when the focus was on discovery, preservation/provenance, and supporting global artists without the friction of trad payment systems) you should check out @bykusari's Arweave wrapper. As someone who collected ART for the sake of LOVING ART, it seems like a great way to keep it preserved without IPFS pins. It's nice to have another option.

I was fortunate enough to be able to support hundreds artists for a time through every system I could over the years (Patreon, KoFi, Commissions, etc). Nothing really compared to the flexibility of the tech we were using to do so in 2021. Discovery was awesome, artists weren't blocked by shit like PayPal for support, and it was nice to be able to create galleries and share the work collected in weird digital spaces.
It's a shame many of these systems which were supposed to 'preserve it' have since collapsed or chased trends into oblivion.
I am glad there are so many out there still trying to fight the fight to keep the focus on preservation. It is costly infrastructure for these people to maintain, but when education and tools spread and allow artists/collectors to preserve on their own terms, perhaps we can have galleries that exist forever. We shall see where these things go long term. There are many still focused on the actual art side of things, the post-FND movement proved it and lots of those tools from the closure announcement that were created are still live as well. You have options!
I do believe that with the massive amount of AI generated media in circulation around the internet - these systems that were built are a unique alternative way to prove you ARE the artist and have that YOU have always been one. When you can share the hashes combined with your history on DeviantArt or Artstation or Pixiv or whichever old-school gallery you may use, idk I just feel like it's something that's really special.
2021 was insane. While it's unfortunate the 1/1 art movement was overshadowed by a slew of predatory generative pfp nonsense, the art and editions from the real artists who took the leap into the crazy experiment with the personal risk that came with it created some great momentum of visibility. It may not be what it was, but at one moment there was an international audience of art lovers that saw your work.
I am happy to see artists from that time still appearing on my timeline with new art, and I am happy to see those who have moved on still on my timelines sharing new art (mostly show on insta though tbh). Some of you who aren't here anymore, made a good transition back into the normal digital art space and I'm proud of you. Some still participate in the digital asset space, I'm happy to see this too - you may bring back the dream someday.
for those who weren't around then or saw the space as something insane or silly or 'you bought a jpeg lol', i get it. it was mixed up with a lot of bullshit. but i promise you, somewhere in that mix were sincere people who just wanted to support artists they love, through the medium they were using at the time. i remember it for this and hope for this again, in whatever system - as a series of strings on a chain or as a revolution in the traditional digital art scene. artists deserve a renaissance. there should be spaces for them that aren't just flinging shit into a social void hoping to be seen to gather a few hearts.
