As I said in January 2024, no one should be taking mRNA COVID-19 vaccines because of their terrible safety profile. But for those who had to take one, Florida’s public health data strongly implies that thousands of Floridians died as a result of receiving Pfizer instead of Moderna. The number of lives lost in the U.S. and internationally is staggering, based on this analysis. The culture of approving vaccines without adequate safety testing and assuming “innocent until proven guilty” with these products absolutely, positively needs to end.
“Twelve-month all-cause mortality after initial COVID-19 vaccination with Pfizer-BioNTech or mRNA-1273 among adults living in Florida: Statewide cohort study” Now appears as peer-reviewed study in Global Epidemiology! In closely matched cohorts of nearly 2M Moderna & Pfizer vaccinees in Florida, the latter (Pfizer) showed substantial higher all-cause, cardiac, non-COVID and COVID mortality post 1st mRNA COVID vaccine dose. These results were robust to adjustments on pre-vaccination cardiac hospitalizations as well as SARS-CoV-2 infections. This study adds to a growing evidence that the mRNA COVID vaccines of Moderna and Pfizer may have different non-specific effects. Recent study “In Vivo Blood Kinetics and Transcript Integrity of Three mRNA–Lipid Nanoparticle Vaccines in Humans” @acsnano showed significant differences in systemic persistence of nano-lipids and spike mRNA between Moderna and Pfizer mRNA COVID vaccines! @MaryanneDemasi @FLSurgeonGen

Should we let parents vote for their minor biological children? Fathers for sons and mothers for daughters? And you have to actually call yourself a mother and not a birthing person?

Almost all of them because they are ignorant of theorical, historical, and comparative analysis.
Barry Goldwater challenged his own party as well as his political opponents. What's one issue where you think Republicans and Democrats have both gotten it wrong?

Another election day come and gone and yet we remain in thrall to an illegal and extra-constitutional duopoly hellbent on doing what is best, for party stalwarts and them alone.

Happy Government Lottery Ticket Day! Just remember: Your odds of being the vote that changes the outcome are even worse than a regular lottery. Also, if you do win the prizes are all crappy. And most of them will try to take more money from you instead of paying out.

The University of Austin is hiring a new professor of classics. I have always said of @uaustinorg that if you asked me to dream up a fantasy solution to the problems of higher education, it would have looked a lot like this—only now it’s real. If you are an academic with an abiding passion for the good stuff—reading classic texts with brilliant colleagues and students who draw out the best in each other—I’d love for you to apply. I know I have lots of followers who meet that description. Come build something with us. jobs.lever.co/uaustin

From a forthcoming piece on rent controls: Reviewing the historical reasons for the implementation of rent controls, a recent article in Cliometrica finds that they were rarely introduced in response to housing supply shocks, but rather to sudden increases in housing demand (sometimes associated with the concentration of stigmatized populations). Rent controls thus often emerged as political responses to shifts in demand rather than to an ailing supply. But increasing demand for urban housing can also reflect better economic opportunities in cities, including higher wages. In other words, rent controls may simply be a policy designed to protect incumbent urban workers from newcomers and preserve the “economic rents” they enjoy from living in cities. This makes the pro-rent-control movement into a force for social exclusion under the guise of “blame the landlords”.
