Should the TVs in the communal areas of an acute psychiatric ward be boxed in? I think they should be, but I’m curious on the opinions of others.

IMO people already know they’re in hospital, and making a hospital pretty/homely doesn’t stop it from being abusive, and private hospitals have frequently been found to be both of those things. It feels to me like one of those ‘quick wins’ for the appearance of change.

The remote would probably be locked up due to risk, if it’s not that would seriously concern me - so if you still need to get the remote from someone, I’m not sure how it’s less restrictive than the TV being out. It looks less institutional but I don’t think the risk is worth it.

Going through my files, found a draft care plan (specifically for crisis) I co-wrote with Fern ~a year before she died. Says a lot we were writing our own care plans. I was 18 when I wrote this. Most handwriting is mine but you can see a bit of hers. #JusticeForFern

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen her handwriting to be honest but it reminds me of when she helped me revise English Lit. And I hand-wrote my own care plans in hospital too. It’s weird the way she still shapes parts of my life. It would be her 29th birthday next week. 💔

The main findings include: 89% of Trusts reported no dissociative care pathway; 78% of Trusts reported no complex trauma pathway; 89% route dissociative patients into PD/CEN services; the absence of NICE guidelines was repeatedly cited as the reason for the lack of services. 2/3

"I don't know who community #mentalhealth services does see these days" My GP said to me earlier today (I was talking about how severe mental illness used to be the core business of NHS community mental health, but that they are no longer commissioned to care SMI folks at all)

When will it be learnt that criminalising people in distress in public solves nothing? Instead we could fund: 24/7 A&E alternatives Day service/crisis houses Emergency MH mobile response teams Secure and safe housing A functioning CMHRS with access to therapy Assertive outreach

We stripped away all the services for people with SMI, and then what a surprise, they turn up in public. Are we back to ugly laws? Don’t be too mental in public because it’s unsightly? SIM does not protect anything but company time. So sick of the same snakes changing their skin

"In this community we listen to each other. We believe each other. We witness each other's pain. We honour each other's lives. We remember each other's words." Along with plagiarising @jaunty_aphorism and @RITB_ this playwright also felt entitled to the testimony of TEWV (1/4)

hello! I have been absent from most everywhere after a 13m IP admission - which considering I’ve been in IP LX spaces for quite a long time was not an experience I was planning on revisiting! some things that surprised me during my admission 🧵

and I was unpleasantly reminded - that all the well written policy in the world is completely pointless if nobody cares about following it. I had to wait six months for all complaint responses, which achieved basically nothing.

We need: a huge culture change. far fewer agency staff. no PD dx in hosp (or anywhere tbh). therapy in hospital. unbelievably, we need sanitary bins. I cannot believe I have to say that we need sanitary bins. #madtwitter #PDinthebin #mentalhealth #psychward
