A while ago I quit various social media platforms, gaming groups and technical IRC channels citing grounds of ill health.
Twitter, email and my blog is all I use now.
I have decided today to write why:

Not usually a big poster of other people's humor... but this was too good to not pass along reddit.com/r/programmerhumor…
Updated my personal site roy.marples.name/ to use SvelteKit!
Yes, this means that blogging is back as it's much easier to maintain and hopefully won't keep breaking on me like my older CMS's.
downloads for my projects are now only available from github
Was hoping to do some coding over the winter break, but have been down with COVID since boxing day and it's showing no signs of clearing.
Edited my bio. Likely to leave twitter for a while and use something hopefully better. Time will tell!

Replying to everyone wishing me well would be a full time job! Seriously, my inbox is more random well wishers than spammers or other bad actors for the past few weeks.
Thankyou all for being a shining light when I have dark times. ❤️
I don't #NetBSD much these days, but when none of my platforms build tools xlint/lint1 it's annoying. Especially when the error is not finding a generated file. I don't see any obvious commit to break, but seriously this should not have happened.

Hopefully just a blip on my cancer journey which wouldn't be possible without my loving family and my now long suffering wife whom I love ever-so much!
I found the motivation to put out a dhcpcd maintainance release.

10 months is also the longest gap between releases since I started this project almost 15 years ago.
FreeBSD finally accepted my SO_RERROR patch so userland application like dhcpcd, ntp and wpa_supplicant can detect errors on the receiving socket - important kernel buffer overflows!

At last all the major BSD have a solution for this issue.

The recent discussions around copilot are a good opportunity to say this: I wish I could have licensed the Id source code releases as BSD. The GPL virality wound up being a net negative, and more value would have come from BSD. My partners would never have gone for it, though.

Gareth Southgate proving that our country can produce genuinely kind, thoughtful and inclusive leaders who know the influence they carry and who use it to shape a better country for all.
Boris Johnson is proof that we just don’t elect them.
I am amazed and truly thankful for the support people have shown towards me and my family for my current situation.
You've really helped to lift my spirits!
Thank you.
Sadly my treatment has failed and my life expentancy is much shorter :(

Dr. Seuss has been dead for nearly 30 years. In a sane world, all his books would be in the public domain. apnews.com/article/dr-seuss-…
It's gotten to the stage where my 5 year old son can now solve complex FreeFlow puzzles faster than me!!!
Must be mad. Just ordered a LG 55" OLED 4K TV.
Wife happy - current 51" plasma HD will go into the bedroom.
Kids happy - Netflix 4k means more devices at the same time.
Me happy - ESO 4K on stadia ;)
Now if only XBOX X (or even PS5) was available to actually buy ......
Enjoying #ElderScrollsOnline on #Stadia on my 55" TV when my kids kick my off my gaming PC.
The sweetener is the Stadia and PC crossplay so all my DLC is there to play!
Makes me want to buy a 4k TV now!!
