I love both Tiffany Atkinson poems in the latest Poetry Review. Imagine writing this opening line.
Boom The under-fifteens’ district windsurf rally for example. What kind of thing was that. To make it the self a small flight at the mercy of. Having fixed a sling of rope and carabiners. Having hooked your narrow breastbone to the boom. To bend the spine against the chop then duck the offshore punch and. BOOM where the heart goes. As your storm-sail whips around the headland. Tiny father on the shingle leaping. And the dog too almost clean out of his dogsuit. BOOM says Mr Jenkins at the boathouse with his clammy hi-five. Boom you think. The property of bang and its hypotenuse. What sheer triangulation of white pebbles on the sand. Not that but how the eye slips shine between them. BOOM. A glory to be swallowed whole a lifetime. Lean out you and I so into look! what whooping light. Goes boom goes boom goes BOOM and.
