Carney campaigned on a deal 18 months ago. He ignored Trump. Went on vacation. Then agreed to a deal. Told Premiers it was a good deal. He was happy with it. He complimented BOTH sides. Then walked away from the deal. Carney gave us his reasons. But the issue I have, like many other Canadians, is that he’s lied to all of us. Not a little fib. A MASSIVE LIE: “We get the revenues. Then the servicing of the costs of the bridge and paying the debt of the bridge, and then what’s left over, there’s a split of that for 15 years.” “There’s not going to be a lot of net to split,” HE THEN DOUBLED DOWN: “Any sharing of toll revenue won’t happen until all of the debt is repaid.” We learned the truth from America. CARNEY. LIED. TO. US. ALL. He lied because he failed at negotiating with the US on the Gordie Howe bridge. It was the first failure before the bigger one. So what’s to stop him from lying now? This is exactly why we as Canadians, need to see the deal that was agreed to. Canada was kept in the dark throughout the process. We learned more about the deal points from the Americans than we did from our government. We all know Carney signs & shares many MOUs and trade agreements done with other countries. Why not share this one since it’s a massive issue that will affect the country? After all, he’s looking at making things MORE EXPENSIVE FOR CANADIANS with counter tariffs. We deserve to see what Carney walked away from. Open book. Because he just made things worse. We need to measure what the baseline deal was. Because eventually, Carney will cave. Like he’s done since getting elected. To the Carney bandwagon defenders: you defending this without demanding transparency is shameful. NO MORE LIES. NO MORE SECRETS. If you want ALL of Canada to trust you, stop lying & be transparent. Guess that’s too much to ask from our government. ☹️

You can’t stop this train this way. All the cheerleading for private development of AI…and we still wind up here. This AI, as I have said before, is a malfunctioning bleeding-edge military-grade research project sold direct to consumer for reasons that remain somewhat unclear.
I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

You don’t have to love Elon Musk to recognize what this headline says about us. A country that spends more time criticizing wealth creation than encouraging it sends a clear message to builders: your success is tolerated, not celebrated. Canada should be the best place in the world to build ambitious companies. Headlines like this make us look like we’re not quite ready for that.

Less than a year ago, President Biden upped the Maduro bounty to $25,000,000. Removing Maduro was positive for Venezuela. As a Democrat, I don’t understand why we can’t acknowledge a good development for Venezuelans—and how deft our military’s execution of that plan was.

All the bleating about "international law" shows just how completely deluded some of our elites have become. International law was a pleasant fiction that lasted for a few decades. It was never real and now the world has reverted to its default setting: Great Power politics. This is why, as a strong Ukraine supporter, I have never talked about international law or called Putin's attack an "illegal invasion". Laws are based on submission to an overarching authority backed by force. There is no such international authority and even if you view the UN as one, it does not have the ability to use force against those who violate "international law" other than against small countries with weak militaries. When the US attacked Iraq, the UN did nothing. When Russia invaded Ukraine, the UN did nothing. If China invades Taiwan tomorrow, the UN will do nothing. If you cannot enforce a law, it's not a law. I do not support Ukraine because naughty Vlad broke the rules. I support Ukraine because it's not in OUR interest in the West to have Russia marauding its way through friendly countries on the borders of Europe. It's in our interest for us to be as strong as possible and for our adversaries to be as weak as possible. President Trump is a realist and a pragmatist. He sees through the fictions other "leaders" cling to. A good leader advances the national interests of his country. If more Western leaders did this, our civilisation would be in a much better place.

It’s right that Tim Davie and Deborah Turness have finally taken responsibility and resigned from the BBC. But let’s be honest, this has been a catalogue of serious failures that runs far deeper. The Prescott report exposed institutional bias that cannot be swept away with two resignations - strong action must be taken on all the issues it raised. The culture at the BBC has not yet changed. BBC Arabic must be brought under urgent control. The BBC’s US and Middle East coverage needs a full overhaul. And on basic matters of biology, the corporation can no longer allow its output to be shaped by a cabal of ideological activists. The new leadership must now deliver genuine reform of the culture of the BBC, top to bottom - because it should not expect the public to keep funding it through a compulsory licence fee unless it can finally demonstrate true impartiality.
