matcha guide: a thread 🍵ྀི ₊ ⊹ I’ve been drinking matcha for 15 years now, when I’m asked to recommend matcha spots my answer is always: make it yourself at home, it’s cheaper and tastes better !! most spots outside are inconsistent and use low-grade powders BUT….

some pairings are biblical…hojicha and kinako is one of them there was a korean tea bar in exmouth market i frequented alot before they shut. so glad they’ve revived their store in the form of a korean matcha cafe which also sells salt bread !! 📍 tokkia, london (soho)

i used to take theming seriously but i haven’t gaf lately but here’s China, Switzerland, Paris and South Korea from my stories

i also wanted to add that pomme is a black, female-owned bakery that does the most innovative pastries in london !! please go show your support they genuinely deserve it

there seems to be a resurgence of cinnamon buns in London 😌 after trying all the famous spots, i think pomme makes the best rolls ever instead of using plain brioche dough, they laminate it like a croissant so each layer soaks in the sticky, brown sugar-cinnamon syrup !!

it’s been a month since i left korea and man do i miss having korean style baguettes and salt bread ╭(╯^╰)╮

also went to get Indonesian food IMMEDIATELY upon returning from Spain because I needed some rice in my system 😭 ayam gepuk is sedap weyh I understand why Malaysia is going crazy over this dish

got to try this brioche style bun in Bilbao that almost reminded me of the red bean/black sesame buns you get at Chinese bakeries !!

new cinnamon roll store from margate just opened in london so of course I lined up on a Saturday morning to try it !! banoffee was probably the best flavour out of the three I tried, super moist and packed with frosting !! kuro and pomme are still the best tbh 📍 rise & bun

i think a lot of influencers glaze these pintxos/tapas places in San Sebastián because half of them taste like reheated snacks that were made 12 hours ago but these two places to me had the best ones out of the ten I’ve tried 📍 jose mari taberna 📍 gandarias

our receptionist recommended this place to us, and while the drinks were just alright - the chocolate cake was soooo moreish and divine !! 📍 rompe huevos, san sebastián

the kind of dish you would think about for the rest of your life seafood soccarat (basically the crispy bottom of a paella), sunny side up egg and a grilled carabinero prawn 📍 maun, san sebastián

dare I say had the best basque/burnt cheesecake of my life the other day, nothing else has compared

spent the morning running around bilbao for the freshest pastries !! tried the infmaous butter buns/botxitos that were a cross between a brioche and Cantonese bakery style bun, bomb as hell

a trip ten years in the making !! finally landed in Basque Country and had the most delicious txuleta/t-bone steak cooked extra rare and a basque cheesecake the cake is quite different to the ones I’ve had before, it’s got some funk and edge to it (I assume cabrales/roquefort)
