🚨🎙️ Paul Scholes on Manchester United’s first-half performance against Chelsea: “This game has been so intense, and I have to say, I’ve seen a lot of improvement in the way Michael Carrick has got this team playing. But one thing I’ve learned from watching this first half is that I never want to hear anyone blaming Carrick again. Seriously, what more do you want this man to do? He has done enough. Look at the number of chances these players have created and, more importantly, the number of chances they have wasted. You cannot keep missing opportunities like this and expect to win football matches. At this level, you have to punish your opponents when you get those opportunities. Then the opposition gets one half-chance, takes it, scores, and suddenly everybody starts pointing fingers at the manager. Why? Because it’s easier to blame the man on the touchline than the players who are actually on the pitch. I think it’s time we started holding these players responsible for the team’s results as well. The manager cannot be the only person who takes the blame every time Manchester United lose. At some point, the players have to look at themselves and take responsibility. Carrick cannot go out there and finish those chances for them. I just hope Carrick goes into that dressing room and gets a message across to these players. It’s only 45 minutes gone. There’s still another half to turn this game around, and they have to believe they can do it. Because honestly, after what I’ve seen from him, Carrick doesn’t deserve to lose this game. The players need to give him something back in that second half.”
