How did authoritarianism arise in America in our time? By tracking the gradual corruption of one man, I set out to explain how it happened: the rationales, the self-deceptions, the descent into madness. His story is a warning. Our democracy is not safe. bit.ly/42E8GQl

Stephen Miller might look the part, but Brendan Carr is actually Trump's most dedicated authoritarian apparatchik. In a fascist regime, he would do anything the boss ordered.
During this election season, there has been a significant surge in entirely Fake Polls and Suppression Polls designed to do nothing more than interfere with the regular functioning of the electoral process and alter the normal patterns of voter turnout and enthusiasm. Many journalists and broadcasters have been amplifying or airing these Polls without regard to basic journalistic ethics and without informing the public that those Polls lack a scientific, accurate, or even real basis. The FCC takes these issues seriously. Broadcasters are prohibited by the terms of their federal licenses from engaging in News Distortion or promoting Broadcast Hoaxes. It is important that broadcasters comply with their public interest obligations. After all, the country benefits greatly when Americans can trust and rely on the media to report the news fairly and accurately. Broadcasters are advised to avoid engaging in News Distortions or running Broadcast Hoaxes by airing Polls that would violate their regulatory obligations. If broadcasters believe they should provide their viewers with additional context and information about Polls they have covered, they can now take those actions consistent with FCC regulations.

Susan Collins says she's delivered for Maine. But the question is what baseline do you measure her accomplishments against? @saletan dove into the record and found her case pretty unpersuasive thebulwark.com/p/the-case-ag…

"Her message is: If you’re unhappy with Trump and the GOP, only Susan Collins—by being powerful, and being a Republican—can reduce your suffering. It’s a bleak pitch." @saletan on Susan Collins: lnk.thebulwark.com/47sDKqP

Susan Collins has spent 30 years accumulating power in Washington. Now she's asking Maine voters to keep her there so she can protect them from the damage inflicted by the very Republican Party she's helped keep in power. @saletan examines her record. lnk.thebulwark.com/3U90IQv?u…

"Again and again, Collins comes back to the same twisted argument: Only she can limit the damage her party is doing." "The question is whether Mainers will settle for that ... or whether they’ll give her seat to a party that will take on Trump for real." thebulwark.com/p/the-case-ag…

.@saletan says you know the Republican Party is losing when even Fox News is asking the tough questions: “It's embarrassing, and honestly, it's kind of hard to watch unless you think these guys have been screwing our country, and they deserve exactly what's coming.”

.@saletan and @samstein on Energy Secretary Chris Wright contradicting Trump’s rationale for the Russia diesel deal: “It’s totally plausible that Trump is the dumbest of all these people and that he’s cutting this deal thinking that the diesel is available when it’s not.”

Me and Ilhan Omar are far apart policy wise. I’m pro life, she’s pro abortion. I’m pro 2A, she’s pro gun control. And on and on. But can someone tell me how pretending to get ready to deport Ilhan Omar is going to bring gas down under $2, make health insurance freaking affordable, make a family’s weekly grocery bill make sense, and stop sending our beloved military off to fight for another fucking foreign war??? People are so sick and tired of the bullshit. When you dumb mf’ers at the WH actually release the Epstein files and lock up the pedophiles and rapists you all hang out with, then we will start paying attention. Until then 🖕.

Did you think that because you're a citizen, you'd be safe from Trump's deportation machine? If they don't like your religion, your accent, your ancestry, your politics, or your color, they will come for you. Vote out the Trump party while you still can. wsj.com/politics/policy/ilha…

Kudlow today: "Has the Marist poll ever, in any state, for any office, ever come out and said the Republican is going to win?" Kellyanne Conway: "Definitely not in the Trump era, Larry, which spans 10 or 11 years." Incredible how lazy these folks are. Marist headlines attached.

The danger for the GOP isn’t just that Trump’s 2024 voters won’t show up in the midterms. It’s that the 31% who have turned against him will.
