J’ai 82 ans. 4 enfants, 11 petits-enfants, 2 arrière-petits-enfants… Certains passent me voir tous les quinze jours. Il me reste mes photos. Quelques objets ramenés de “chez moi”. Et le silence, parfois trop lourd. Si quelqu’un me lit…

They left yesterday. None in the garage last night. 8,000miles, bound for southern Africa. I always feel melancholy when they leave. Safe journey, you wee beauties. See you next year. 💙🙏🌍

A male always handles the childcare in the emu world. Here is one protecting three stripeys (not necessarily his babies, btw). That's what baby emus are lovingly called, for obvious reasons. Credit to Rhonda for spotting these as we travelled along Flinders Ranges Way yesterday.

A new Mongabay investigation reveals that Vantara, the private Indian zoo run by Anant Ambani, has engaged U.K. lobbyists with strong ties to European pro-hunting organizations and the Trump administration. Lobbyist Tristan Breijer of Checkmate Government Relations, who has represented European hunting associations, organized a private roundtable for Vantara on the sidelines of a recent CITES meeting in Geneva. Checkmate was founded by a close hunting associate of Donald Trump Jr., and its client list includes Reliance Industries, the oil and gas giant owned by the Ambani family. The lobbying efforts come as CITES scrutinizes the origins of some of the endangered animals imported by Vantara. India is expected to report to the CITES Standing Committee in November on the due diligence and oversight of its wildlife import processes. Conservationists point out that hiring commercial lobbying firms tied to trophy hunting raises critical credibility questions for an institution that claims to operate purely as an animal rescue facility. Read the full report on the network of political connections and lobbying activities surrounding Vantara. 👉 mongabay.cc/ePaiey

"Please right your right hand. I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States that loves us so much he can't even breathe" -- in extremely culty scene, Trump has his supporters pledge to him that they will vote, then tells them they will "go to hell" if they don't Here's the full sequence:

NEW: Every week, a Philadelphia nun drives to the immigration court in Harlingen, Texas, to sit beside unaccompanied children, some as young as four, who face a deportation judge with no lawyer and no parent. This week, an undocumented migrant who is facing imminent deportation called Sister Rose Kuhn his “angel.” This comes as Catholics across the nation, inspired by Pope Leo XIV, are standing up to the White House’s immigration policies.

🌳 Plot twist: Trees don’t just vacuum CO₂. Microscopic life living on their bark also quietly sucks up methane — another potent greenhouse gas. Scientists say this makes forests 7–12% better for the climate than we ever gave them credit for. Nature’s silent overachievers
