When we started building Beam, the idea was simple. An app running on another Mac should feel like a normal window on the one you're using.
Getting a window to show up was only the beginning. It had to be fast. It had to look sharp. Resizing had to feel natural.
@hnshah and I spent a lot of time making those details work.
Beam is live on Product Hunt today. Here's what it looks like.

One launch is all it takes 🎶
We launched Beam on Monday and hit #1 on Product Hunt.
The most requested feature was Intel Mac support. We shipped it three days later.
Beam now runs on any Intel Mac with macOS 14 or later, in both directions. Beam its windows or whole desktop to another Mac, or sit at the Intel Mac and open windows from your other Macs.
That old Intel Mac gathering dust has a job again.

In June, @SamAsante and I launched Typeahead, the first product from our new company.
Today we're releasing our next Mac app. It's called Beam, and we're live on Product Hunt.
I've got Macs all over my house doing different work. Some run agents and local models. Others handle builds. When I want to use one app on another Mac, I usually end up navigating a whole second desktop through Screen Sharing.
Beam brings that app's window onto the Mac I'm using. It gets its own Dock icon and shows up in ⌘Tab. I can type into it and resize it while everything keeps running on the other Mac.
Sam has put a lot of care into making this feel natural. The video shows it better than I can explain it.

Fun story. I was driving to the Ops Engineer Fellowship dinner and @SamAsante decides he wants to surprise me.
So we hop on Zoom while I'm in my Tesla. He's demoing something he's been building. I'm trying to follow along on my phone.
~45 minutes later, I'm a few minutes late to dinner and my mind is blown. But I have to keep my mouth shut. Cause we don't even have a name for it yet.
Sam's been building this to help us build our other products. So meta, I know.
I didn't even get a chance to ask Sam, "What's next?" after the @BeamDotWin launch on Monday.
I have my answer now. We just landed on a name and domain.
Now the question is, how fast will Sam ship this one?!
We've given AI agents jobs. Now we have to figure out how to manage them.
I've spent this year building agents, seeing where they break, and figuring out what makes them useful repeatedly.
Pumped to join @a16z's inaugural Ops Engineering Fellowship and meet everyone tonight.

Beam is extremely slick, I use it on our fleet - highly recommend checking it out!
AI agents are getting their own computers. We need better ways to use the apps running on them.
I've got a Mac mini at home running Hermes Agent. It helps manage the other Macs in my setup, often without me touching it.
That's one of the reasons @SamAsante and I built Beam. I can bring an app window from that Mac right onto the one I'm using.

I thought Beam was going to be a pretty niche Mac app. It's #1 on @ProductHunt right now. I underestimated how many people would find this interesting. producthunt.com/products/bea…

The cost of making websites feel alive is falling fast.
I built this particle-assembled Beam footer in a handful of prompts. A few years ago, I might have spent weeks on this shader.
@hnshah and I launched Beam for Mac today. Details below.

The feature cards have another detail you don't see in a screenshot.
Move your cursor and the light follows. It catches the border and illuminates little particles as you go.
It's a small detail, but it makes the whole section feel more responsive.

Have been beta testing this for a few weeks now.
This really has made life so much better! So much better than built-in screen sharing.
For anyone working with multiple mac machines, this is a no brainer!!
Awesome work @hnshah @SamAsante

I asked this while @SamAsante and I were building Beam.
More than 100 replies led us to people who were already using multiple Macs in all kinds of interesting ways. We brought some of them into early access and learned a ton from how they actually worked.

Never knew we needed this until now...
Beam by @hnshah and @samasante puts single apps from one Mac on your other Mac, each with its own Dock icon and ⌘Tab spot.
So you can open one window from your Mac at home, not its whole screen.
Why we like it: when running agents you can call one window on its machine without needing to fight over the mouse.

This is without question the best “remote desktop” (that undersells what it does) app I’ve used. Clean, efficient, low resource utilization.
@hnshah and @SamAsante crushed it.

Replying to @hnshah @SamAsante
I’ve been using this often for the last month. Quite better than the native screen share between my Mac mini and MacBook
When you open an app from another Mac with Beam, it gets its own place in your Dock and shows up in ⌘Tab, right alongside the apps already on your Mac.
That feeling of the app belonging in your workspace is what we’ve been working toward.

I’ve been beta testing this thing for about a month and it rocks! It’s better than anything else I’ve tried.
This should be an instant purchase for anyone managing 2 or more Macs.
