Rome bans diesel vehicles as an emergency measure after 10 smog days. I assume this is based on emission standards and engineering choices by manufacturers that mean diesels (esp pre Euro 6) emit more NOX, NO2 & PM than petrol.
Rome bans all diesel vehicles to combat rising smog.
Rome city council banned diesel cars, vans & motorbikes during peak hours on Tuesday, with the worst polluting vehicles barred from the streets from dawn to dusk.
