You call these “10 truths about China.” They are nothing of the sort. They are your personal breakup letter with Marxism projected onto a country you clearly do not understand. So let’s go through them. 1. “China is everything it is thanks to capitalism.” No. China’s rise came through reform and opening, markets, private enterprise, foreign investment, state planning, public infrastructure, industrial policy, state-owned enterprises, and an enormous state-directed development strategy. China did not abolish the socialist state and suddenly become rich. It built a socialist market economy. China’s constitutional order explicitly defines the country as socialist, while “socialism with Chinese characteristics” describes the system China developed by adapting socialist institutions to its own national conditions. Calling every successful part “capitalism” and every problem “socialism” is a rigged definition. For someone suffering from “Marxism-related PTSD,” of course every Chinese success has to be psychologically rewritten as proof that capitalism won. 2. “China is not everything it could be because of socialism.” This is not an economic fact. It is your imaginary alternate universe. You cannot measure the GDP of a China that never existed and then declare your fantasy richer. That is theology disguised as economics. 3. “Mao was the greatest criminal in human history.” Chinese people have never needed to pretend Mao was a god. China’s own historical judgment of Mao has always contained both achievement and responsibility. Mao and the older generation of revolutionaries did not inherit power from nowhere. They defeated the Kuomintang in a civil war because the Communist movement secured decisive support among the Chinese people and built the political and military strength to win. That historical achievement does not erase what came later. China has never denied that internal power struggles, disastrous political campaigns, and serious errors of judgment inflicted enormous losses on the country and its people. Chinese people are perfectly capable of confronting both sides of that history without needing lessons from a Peruvian ideologue who clearly knows almost nothing about China. So no, you do not get to compress one of the most consequential political figures in modern Chinese history into “the greatest criminal in human history” and then present your personal moral judgment as empirical truth. You are not describing history. You are advertising your ignorance. 4. “Without Deng, China would be poorer than Africa.” Deng’s reforms were transformative. That does not make your counterfactual true. Africa is not even a single economy. And Deng did not overthrow the Communist Party, dismantle the Chinese state, privatize everything, and install Peruvian libertarianism. He reformed China through the existing socialist state. The reform was Chinese. The institution carrying it out was Chinese. The outcome was Chinese. You do not get to erase the state that executed the reform and then award all credit to your preferred ideology. 5. “Mao hunted sparrows. Deng built skyscrapers.” That is X history for people who think a civilization can be summarized by two memes. The pre-reform period contained catastrophic political mistakes. It also created industrial capacity, infrastructure, state institutions, education, public health systems, and a national economic base upon which later reforms operated. Deng did not arrive in an empty field carrying a skyscraper. History has continuity. Memes do not. 6. “China was rocketing ahead until Xi arrived and slowed everything down.” Wrong causal story. China’s productivity slowdown was already emerging around the global financial crisis. Its later growth moderation reflects aging, diminishing returns to investment, property-sector adjustment, weaker productivity growth, external pressure, and the simple arithmetic of becoming a vastly larger economy. No country can sustain double-digit GDP growth indefinitely. You haven’t exposed Xi’s incompetence. You’ve exposed the poverty of your own economic understanding. 7. “Under a free market, China would tower above the entire West combined.” Another imaginary China. There is no dataset for “China under my preferred ideology.” There is only the China that actually exists. And the China that actually exists became an economic superpower through a hybrid system you apparently find ideologically inconvenient. That is your problem, not China’s. 8. “Marxist backwardness condemned China to mediocre second place.” “Mediocre.” China is already the world’s largest economy by purchasing-power parity. It produces roughly one-third of global manufacturing output. Its manufacturing share exceeds that of the United States, Japan, Germany and South Korea combined. If that is “mediocre,” the word has lost contact with reality. 9. “The Belt and Road was the greatest failure in modern history and served absolutely no purpose.” The World Bank itself has estimated that BRI transport infrastructure can reduce travel times and trade costs, increase trade and investment, raise incomes, and potentially lift millions of people out of poverty. Dislike particular projects. Dislike the financing. Dislike the governance. Calling an infrastructure network spanning Eurasia, Africa and beyond “absolutely no purpose” is not analysis. It is you losing control in a hysterical ideological outburst. 10. “China proves capitalism succeeds despite the state limiting it.” And here the trick finally becomes obvious. Whenever China succeeds: “Capitalism did it.” Whenever China has a problem: “Socialism did it.” Markets working inside China? Capitalism. State planning producing infrastructure? Somehow also capitalism. Industrial policy producing global champions? Capitalism again. A downturn? Ah, socialism has returned. You have constructed an ideology that can never lose because you simply rename every success as yours and every failure as theirs. That is not economics, it is religion. Your pinned post explains the rest. You were once a Marxist. You became disillusioned. Fine. But China is not your ex-girlfriend. It is not responsible for your wasted years, your broken friendships, your political disappointment, or your personal war with the ideology you once embraced. Stop using a civilization of 1.4 billion people as a screen onto which you project your own political trauma. You are not explaining China. You are explaining yourself.

Ukraine did this after Cuba spent hundreds of millions of dollars treating thousands of sick Ukrainian children from Chernobyl. Cuba spent 20 years providing specialised care they couldn't afford in Ukraine. Ukraine paid nothing, voting to starve Cuba was their payment I guess.
Ukraine voting to starve Cuba but we're supposed to believe they are hereos and defenders of Europe?

The famines that occurred early on in revolutionary societies were in fact the last famines of the capitalist-feudal order that came before. Socialism solved the problem of hunger, which had tormented the peasantry for centuries. Historical records from pre-revolutionary China cite 1,828 catastrophic famines over about 2,000 years, or roughly one per year. These would routinely claim millions of lives. What stopped them? The revolution, with its land reforms and Communist Party forces tasked with serving the people. That process did not happen with the snap of the fingers, but required seismic social transformations — a long struggle of shedding the old and building the new. That is why the last famine occurred after the revolution. We also know what happens when the capitalist dictatorship is restored in a formerly socialist country. After the defeat of the USSR, hunger returned to Russia at levels unseen since the immediate post-war period, when the country was still reeling from the effects of Germany’s war of extermination. The levels of hunger and death imposed by global capital on the people of the Eastern Bloc in the 1990s were historically unprecedented in peacetime.

Had the Kuomintang won, China would be ruled from Washington. Its ports patrolled. Its elections supervised. Its economy opened like a carcass. Mao did not just defeat an army. He prevented a century of American ownership. That is why they still hate him. Not because of what he built. But because of what he denied them.

The Chinese Revolution was not clean. Nothing that emerges from a century of colonial humiliation, decades of civil war, and the specific conditions of mid-20th century China was going to be clean. The deaths were real. The coercion was real. The suppression of dissent, the destruction of the Cultural Revolution, the specific and irreplaceable things that were lost: these are real and they matter, and the Chinese people who lived through them are not plot devices in anyone’s geopolitical story. But here is the other truth, the one that sits alongside it: China is not a colony. China was not carved into spheres of influence for the convenience of foreign capital. China was not kept poor and dependent and "open" in the specific way that "open" means when powerful countries say it about weaker ones. China made its own catastrophic decisions, on its own terms, and rebuilt from them on its own terms. That sovereignty, costly, contested, imperfect, real, is what the revolution purchased. Whether the price was worth it is a question the Chinese people get to answer. Not the people who were planning to own the country. Not the people who are still angry that they don’t.

A reminder for those who forgot recent history that there was a time - not that long ago - when France used to have its own independent view of the world. A time when France's range of acceptable opinion on China was wide enough that its flagship news magazine (not at all known for its communist leanings) hailed Mao as "a giant of history, poet, strategist and prophet" on a 1976 cover 👇 And a time when a centre-right French president - Giscard d’Estaing - mourned him as "a beacon of world thought" (letemps.ch/monde/asie-oceani…). Today, saying something even remotely positive - or even neutral/nuanced - about China immediately gets you branded as a "CCP propagandist paid by China to bring down the West" 😅 I laugh but it's actually pretty sad when you think about it: not that France should go back to calling Mao - or Xi - a prophet, but, almost by definition, a country whose range of acceptable opinions has so dramatically shrunk in so little time has entered a new dark age, branding every dissonant voice a heretic and every attempt at understanding an act of treason. Which means, somewhat paradoxically, that those who refuse the doxa and still dare to express nuanced opinions, and get called traitors for it, may actually be the most patriotic of the lot, those who believe in France the most.

"Brian! Who is behind the protests in Serbia?" Short answer: It looks like the US is. The long answer... To actually, definitively answer this question, you need to look up the organizations involved directly in the protests, as well as the organizations supporting and promoting in legally, logistically, financially, and across information space politically. I'm surely not the only human being on Earth that can look these things up, but since many have asked, I have begun looking. This requires research that can take several hours of dedicated focus to answer. To start, look at US government-funded media like Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty or British state media like BBC and see how they're spinning it. If they are enthusiastically promoting it - it is almost CERTAIN it is US-backed. If they are decrying it as "anti-democratic mobs" or "Russian/Chinese meddling" it is almost CERTAIN it is aimed at dismantling US-backed proxies/parties/programs. Regarding the current protests in Serbia - in just a few minutes I have found several organizations in the middle of supporting them funded by the US/EU governments including: 1. ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project) ( npr.org/2026/10/24/nx-s1-601… ) 2. The Global Resilience Fund ( theglobalresiliencefund.org/… ) 3. N1 and Nova S (United Media Group) ( here is a US/EU funded front promoting them mfrr.eu/media-in-serbia-atta… ) 4. And of course the BBC and RFE/RL themselves as seen below... No, "legit" protests don't get hijacked - that's not how the US has ever operated - large protests require years of preparations and network building. If the US is involved it is because they are behind it. To everyone who will message me saying "No! the current government is horrible, this is legit protests!" No matter how bad you "think" your government is, the US-backed puppets they will replace it with will be 10000x worse - just ask Ukraine. If you are going to tell me the protests are legit - you need to show me the special interests that are behind the protests and show me a list longer and more convincing than the one I showed above. And no - protests are never "decentralized" - this is simply the US doing a better job covering its tracks. ALL protests - good or bad - have special interests (good or bad) behind them. Human beings do not spontaneously self-organize on this sort of scale.

Prof. Richard Wolff: ‘Russia🇷🇺 & China’s🇨🇳 goal was to be safely away from the DISINTEGRATION of the unipolar empire moment of the United States. They want to watch the United States IMPLODE on itself, unable to fight two wars at the same time. We are full of information in this country that one of the reasons Mr. Trump can't do what he would like to do in Iran is the US, doesn't have the munitions anymore. Well, that's another way of saying what every other empire that collapsed said in the final years of its collapse: it was overreaching. It was trying in too many ways to hold on to the empire against the resistance of too many people coming at them from too many directions. That's what Iran demonstrates now, in the most dramatic way. This relatively poor country that no one in the United States ever took seriously is in the position of blocking the American military from doing what nothing else in the United States can do, which is to bring them to heel. The Russians and the Chinese, but for sure the Chinese, their interest is: let's not get drawn into this, because it's an economic story. For the last 35 years, the economic growth of the GDP, the gross domestic product of China, was larger, two to three times larger than that of the United States. Therein, everything is understandable. They have time on their side. They've had it for the last 35 years, which is why they are the power they are now. The longer they can survive, the better the odds are getting that they will come through the decline of the Western Empire in a way that the Western Empire cannot do. And so I think what you're watching is you're watching the Chinese watching the West, and watching the West learn the lesson. Russia made the deal with China much earlier than the rest of them, and is going to be benefiting from it as it already is.’ Watch the full interview in the quoted post 👇 @profwolff

NATO bombed Serbian tobacco factories in 1999. Sounds strange. Why bomb tobacco? Not military targets. Not critical infrastructure. Just factories making cigarettes. Then Philip Morris showed up. Rebuilt those same facilities. Modernized the equipment. Brought them up to international production standards. Today you can buy cigarettes made in Serbia under Philip Morris brands in Australia, Europe, everywhere. Serbia became a major exporter. So let's think about this. NATO bombs the factories. Philip Morris rebuilds them and profits from the production capacity. Who benefited from that bombing? Same pattern with Microsoft. Right after the bombing stopped, big Microsoft headquarters opens in Belgrade city center. I remember walking past that building and seeing their logo up there. Didn't take long. The bombing was illegal under international law. That's not opinion. No UN Security Council approval. Violated the NATO charter itself. But they did it anyway. Then Western corporations moved in while the rubble was still being cleared. I lived through it. I watched it happen. And 25 years later I'm still asking the same question: who were they really fighting for?
