Is your WordPress site patched for the PHP fix? The version number might not tell you.
Many hosts put the October 21 fix into the PHP they already run without changing the number. GoDaddy customers are seeing 8.4.26 with a build dated 10/21.
The build date is the proof. We wrote up how to check it, host by host, in plain words.
The guide: version numbers, where WordPress shows yours, what owners found at GoDaddy, Bluehost and cPanel hosts, and the one question to ask your host. sarcio.io/docs/wordpress-php…

This week WordPress updates went wrong both ways. Sites that never updated sat on PHP2Shell. Sites that updated blindly pulled in a backdoored Rank Math PRO build.
The habit that holds up: update one thing at a time, check the pages that make you money after each, keep a backup from before, and be able to put the old version back in a minute.
Sarcio's safe updates do the breakage half on their own: checks before, key pages tested after, old version back automatically if something broke. A backdoor in a working update is different: no page test catches that, so keep the backups.

WordPress site broke after your host patched PHP this week (PHP2Shell)? It's rarely the patch itself. Usually it's an old plugin, or a PHP module the new build is missing.
1. Check the admin email for "Your site is experiencing a technical issue". It names the plugin.
2. Tools > Site Health > Status lists missing PHP modules. mbstring is a common one.
3. Don't roll PHP back. These releases close the hole.
