EN: Why are animals blessed on the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi?
Deacon Ricardo Uribe explains that it is in remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi’s great love for all of creation; he called animals his brothers and sisters.
Animals are more than just pets; they are companions who bring us joy, comfort, and love, and who are part of our families.
By blessing animals, we give thanks to God for these beautiful creatures and remember our call to care for and protect them. In the Holy Scriptures, we see how God invites us to care for His creation; Adam himself was given the mission of naming the animals.
Let us give thanks to God for the gift of creation and for our companions in life.

¿Qué mundo queremos dejarles a nuestros niños?

Trees for Francis 🌳
On Sunday, September 27, Bishop Alberto Rojas blessed and planted a Catalina Cherry tree at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Riverside, CA, marking the first “Trees for Francis” event in our diocese.
In celebration of the Franciscan Jubilee Year and in response to Laudato Si’, Franciscan Jubilee pilgrimage site churches throughout the Diocese are planting a native tree on their campuses! 🌱
This is just the beginning!
Seven more tree-planting events are scheduled from October through December at Franciscan pilgrimage jubilee parishes across the diocese. 🌳
Native trees are being provided by California Interfaith Power & Light!
Several of our diocesan seminarians and Father Larry Curtis were in attendance yesterday for the Beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
It was a joyful occasion of faith, prayer, and witness as we gathered to celebrate this special moment.

Sunday, 27 September, marks the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. My thoughts go out to migrants and refugees, especially minors compelled to leave their homeland. Children and teenagers are the most vulnerable. They often endure unspeakable suffering, violence, torture, exploitation, and traumatic conditions. It is not uncommon for them to lose their lives along migration routes. I appeal to everyone’s sense of responsibility: may we all feel a sense of involvement in the lives of these young people, who must always be protected and supported.
Bishop Rojas reminds us that God gave us intelligence, creativity, and the ability to understand nature so that we can be responsible stewards of what He has entrusted to us. 🌎 It is important to remember that our choices affect others especially those living in the poorest and most vulnerable communities around the world. 🌱
Congratulations to Bishop Alberto Rojas on receiving the 2026 Mexican Leadership Recognition Award! 🎉

In the first video of our new series with Bishop Alberto Rojas. He shares his deep love for nature and reflects on how growing up surrounded by the beauty of creation shaped his appreciation for God’s handiwork.
Bishop offers an important message to young people: in a world filled with technology and constant distractions, we need to make time to step outside, reflect, experience the beauty of nature, and reconnect with God our Creator. When we fail to respect and care for creation, the effects are felt by everyone, especially those most vulnerable.
