Sam LaPorta on @PardonMyTake today:
"I think the combination of, like, getting your heartstrings twisted, as well as the violent sport we play, you know, it sucks, and it's disappointing that you go out there every week and you bear the risk of getting hurt … You know, like last year, whatever it was, Week 9, Week 10, you know, I break my f—ing back for the team, and then I'm going out there this year, and I'm balling, and maybe they're just not showing the love. So, it sucks."
He's right. Green Bay paid Tucker Kraft $75M the day before Week 1, coming off a torn ACL, before he played a single snap back. Same draft class, same position. LaPorta had back surgery, came back, and has more career receiving yards than Kraft. Detroit's answer is a "stalemate."
Pay the man, get the deal done.

Why are Lions fans so eager to ship out Juice Scruggs right now?
He's a 2023 2nd-rounder in the last year of his rookie deal, he can play center and guard, and he's exactly the kind of depth that saves your season when the injuries pile up. You don’t dump that for a day 3 pick.
I'd like to re-sign him, too. If the price gets too high, fine, let him walk, and he could bring back a compensatory pick anyway. Either way, trading him now gets you less than keeping him.

Turns out Paul George is still really good at basketball in the Joe Mazzulla system
AND THE PISTONS STINK @evanfoxy
I seem to have ruffled some feathers today with my DB targets for the Lions. So I want the people to decide. Who's the Lions' top DB target before the trade deadline? What would you be willing to give up (players and/or picks)?

The Eagles would have made him stay up for 36 hours and play in a game.
A statement from the Pittsburgh Penguins

ALT Statement graphic that reads: The Pittsburgh Penguins team plane returned to the Salt Lake City International Airport today shortly after takeoff due to a medical episode involving forward Ben Kindel. Team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas of UPMC, as well as the team’s medical staff were on board and immediately attended to Ben. An ambulance was waiting upon arrival, and he was taken to the University of Utah Hospital for further evaluation. Ben is conscious, alert and in stable condition. The health and safety of our players, as well as the privacy for their families, are our top priority. The team will provide further updates when appropriate.
Washington is 1-4-1, and Lions fans are sleeping on the best value corner at the deadline.
And no, it's not Amik Robertson. I don't see a reunion happening. It's Rasul Douglas.
6'2", 209 with 32⅜" arms. Size and length you can't teach. He ran a 4.59 and never won with speed. He wins with eyes, hands and physicality.
At 31 he has a 66.5 PFF coverage grade, a 78.8 passer rating allowed, 3 PBUs and an INT. He's on a one-year deal worth up to $3.8M with zero 2027 money.
Sheppard plays 77.7% zone now. A 6th for a vet who can actually cover in it? Make the call, Brad. #OnePride
The best corner available might just be Riq Woolen.
6'4", 205, 33⅝" arms, 4.26 forty, 42" vertical. A Pro Bowler as a rookie and a Super Bowl champ last year.
The good: PFF has him 16th of 102 CBs (70.7 coverage), and he leads ALL corners in snaps. The bad: 0 INTs, 1 PBU and a 95.0 passer rating allowed. Some weeks he looks like a CB1, other weeks you're yelling at the TV.
The Eagles are 2-4 and selling, and he's on a 1-year deal with zero 2027 money. Bet on the tools for a Day 3 pick. Nothing more. #OnePride
Brandon Stephens is the boring move, and boring is exactly what this secondary needs.
6'1", 215, 32" arms, a 76¾" wingspan, 19 bench reps and a 4.44 at his pro day. A big, physical corner who won't get bullied at the catch point.
71.7 coverage grade, on the field every week, and his 2027 money isn't guaranteed. PFF already named Detroit as a fit.
Not a star. But not giving up 140+ passer ratings either. 👀 #OnePride

Lions CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. — 2026 Man Coverage Statistics:
• 28.2% man coverage rate (26th of 105 CBs)
• 22 man coverage snaps
• 2 targets
• 1 reception allowed
• 6 receiving yards allowed
• 1 pass breakup
• 56.3 passer rating allowed (29th)
• 22.0 coverage snaps per reception (T-9th)
Hot take: the Lions' sneakiest deadline add is a 31-year-old Charger nobody's talking about.
Donte Jackson: 5'10", 180, ran a 4.32 at the combine. Pure speed.
In 2025 he had a 79.9 PFF zone coverage grade, 13th among CBs, and tied for the league lead with 4 zone INTs. Sheppard now plays 77.7% zone. He's on an expiring deal with ~$6M base, $0 in 2027.
Yes, his 2026 coverage grade is 54.7 and he's been banged up. LA is 0-6. A 7th, maybe a 6th. Low risk, real upside. #OnePride
Controversial: I'd trade for Budda Baker, and I don't care what PFF says.
5'10", 195, 8x Pro Bowler. A box-safety enforcer with 2.5 sacks and 36 tackles in five games.
Yes, PFF has him 72nd of 98 safeties with a 46.4 coverage grade and a 117.8 passer rating allowed. So you don't ask him to cover. You put him in the box and let him hit people.
His $17.8M 2027 salary has $0 guaranteed, so he's a pure rental. Arizona is 2-4 and his trade odds are "50-50." A 5th, and Arizona eats some salary. #OnePride
