From an #embodied POV first-person subjectivity is THE best way to understand how another person metabolizes & engages their experience. Their words and embodied actions display a (preferred) pathway of experiencing phenomenological moments as they unfold.
What Kurt Schneider Also Said: The Primacy of Subjective Experience in the Concept of First Rank Symptoms "This first-person perspective cannot be adequately captured by behavioral observation or clinical inference. Its diagnostic value lies in the patient’s vivid accounts...

People who make proclamations about life, things or other people need to do this right now … stop proclaiming … put down their phone … and take their own advice. Stop proclaiming things, people!

New essay! Everyone agrees scientists can’t be objective. Activist-scientists say honesty means leaning in: declare your biases and argue them out like a courtroom. But courtrooms need a defense to show up and a neutral referee. Social psych has neither. open.substack.com/pub/michae…

Good stuff from @Orgone1 “The Reichian vision of life is that *everything living pulsates* from the cells upward, through individual organs, the rhythm and pulse of the heart and lungs, through to individuals and their moods. This understanding gives us a new lens that connects lots of disparate phenomena - our bodies do lots of different things that can be understood as pulsation - crying, laughter, birth, and infamously to Reich, orgasm. All are phenomena which have a pulsatory aspect.” pulsation1.substack.com/p/an…

Two scientific claims that are projections of the claimants: ❌ “Machines are conscious” ❌ “Emotions are cognitive predictions” Those advancing these claims reveal more about how THEY experience and conceptualize reality than about the nature of consciousness or emotion itself

Positivity can sometimes function as a way of preventing complexity from entering the conversation. “Great! Appreciate you! No worries!” keeps momentum and social ease, but it can also mean that disappointment, conflict, ambiguity, or feedback never become objects of inquiry.

According to Damasio & affective-homeostatic theories, interoception & homeostatic monitoring are essential to consciousness: subjective experience entails a mapping of the organism, the environment & the relationship between both. These forms of signaling are substrate dependent
I tend to think (intrinsic/causal) computational functionalism is currently the most reasonable metaphysical position about consciousness. And this implies the possibility of AI consciousness. Other positions are logically possible, but I feel they are unlikely to be true.

Emotions and embodiment well described by Bill Burr👇🏼
.@billburr on crying in his hotel while practicing lines: “Some actors think if you’re crying, that’s good. Well, not if it doesn’t call for it. It would have been bizarre. I literally just went, like, ‘OK, what is this?’”
