As Lord Darzi rightly concludes in his report, staff are the beating heart of the NHS, with a shared passion and determination for making the NHS better for patients - but he is also clear they are facing unprecedented challenges.

We wanted to start day two of our Global Summit in the same way we started it yesterday with this powerful video. Deconditioning ruins lives but it's not inevitable. Excited for another day of incredible speakers and interacting with you on this platform. @LyndamHolt

Environment is a key component in my dysphagia assessments and my recommendations will always have an environmental element to minimise risk and maximise intake and wellbeing 🍝🍜🍛 #slt #withsltyoucan @AhpDementia
Mealtime environments matter. Seating, lighting, background noise, cooking smells, food presentation & what’s happening around the meal all contribute to our experience. Let’s look around to maximise the experience. #WithSLTuCan

An NHS fit for the future means an NHS fit for the increasing number of people living with frailty, multimorbidity and/or dementia. It is vital that the next government recognises the realities of an ageing population. Find out more here bgs.org.uk/GE2024 #NHSConfedExpo
Replying to @HSJnews
Where do we go next? Partly a question for future gov. Cites huge coming growth in 85s+ and serious illness. It means more demand requiring more capacity more equipment more drugs - all those things add up to more costs. With a smaller working population to meet the costs.

The business case for rehabilitation in older people is compelling. Future research should address the evidence gaps around older people who have been excluded from studies due to cognitive impairment or socio-economic or cultural inequalities. bgs.org.uk/rehab #BGSRehab

CPR is not a treatment for #ordinarydying. Every instance of futile CPR - which is what will happen if nobody has sorted out the protection of a DNACPR for someone whose life is coming to an end - is a tragedy. Please, doctors, nurses, patients, families - #havetheconversation.

Is this person in front of you sick or frail? It takes a bit of time to make the effort to find out. Hopefully we’ve explained how, and why this is important.
