Who remembers Betta Edu? The young upcoming looter who shocked the APC. Betta Chimaobim Edu is a University Of Calabar trained medical doctor born in Lagos in 1986, partly raised in the UK until about age eight when her father relocated his family to Nigeria after previously relocating them to the UK, record says the father was a disciplined Christian missionary. Betta attended FGGC, Calabar and finished secondary school in 2001 before her UNICAL days in which she was very active in student politics occupying the position of treasurer of Cross River State Medical Student Association in 2005 and UNICAL SUG Vice President in 2007. She graduated in 2009, worked as a Houseman in the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and in other Cross River State health facilities before her NYSC days in 2012. During her NYSC, she served as Chief Medical Director of the Cross River State NYSC camp clinic and was also deployed to the Government House Clinic as her PPA then under Governor Liyel Imoke’s Administration, because of her sharp medical acumen and leadership capacity, she was appointed as the Medical Officer and Team Lead for the Government House Clinic. Beta had a good relationship with Obioma Liyel-Imoke, the then first lady of Cross River from her days in the government house clinic and the "Team Legor" days. After NYSC, she was employed by the Cross River State Ministry of Health as a Medical Officer of Health in 2013 while working for the state she traveled to the UK to complete a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health for Developing Countries at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine around 2014, at about the same time Ben Ayade, a very loyal boy of Liyel-Imoke was being preped to become governor of Cross River. By 2015, when Imoke was succeeded by his godson Ben Ayade, Beta Edu was fully ready to be his Special Adviser on Community Health at 28 years, making her the youngest SA in Cross River at the time. A year later, she was appointed the Pioneer Director-General of PHCDA, elevated to run the newly established Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency. She built its administrative framework from scratch and after 3 years was appointed Commissioner for Health at age 33, becoming the youngest ever health commissioner in the state’s history. This beautiful brilliant doctor was also the COVID-19 Task Force Chairman in Cross River during the pandemic and was National Chairman of Health Commissioners in 2020, elected by her peers from other states to lead the Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum until her graduation into national politics in 2022 when she contested for the National Women leader of the APC with Ben Ayade’s influence on the zoning of that office, a reward for loyalty after decamping with the Governor from the PDP to the APC. She resigned from her role as commissioner to become the National Women Leader at 35 years of age, the youngest to achieve that in the party’s history. Shocking fact: Betta Edu started working with the health sector in Cross River at age 26 and was Commisioner of Health by 33, in a 7-year period. Wow

From careful observation, Betta was a groomed looting tool, unlike Diezani who started her career from the private sector, Betta started from the public sector with the backing of 2 1st ladies of a state she is only maternally connected to. Her appointment as SA at just 28 was seen as a sudden elevation over senior, long-serving public health bureaucrats in Cross River State & this sparked deep resentment amongst her colleagues. Civil servants & older medical practitioners within the state ministry labeled her appointment as a product of pure political favoritism rather than standard civil service seniority. Her loot instinct started from her SA days when she pushed for Governor Ayade’s vision for the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme (Ayadecare), she was accused of trying to bypass institutional checks & balances to rush the health insurance law through the State House of Assembly. This created an aggressive power struggle between the regular ministry hierarchy & her newly formed advisory office. Then she moved on to laying the groundwork to re-route state funds into defunct or expired World Bank-supported projects. While these issues exploded later during her time as the Primary Healthcare DG, the structural changes & funding pipelines that enabled it were initiated during her months as SA. Betta’s office as DG was accused of making controversial political appointments into expired, defunct, or non-existent World Bank-supported health programs, these appointments were used to create a "ghost worker" apparatus, effectively siphoning global health intervention grants & state administrative funds into private political patronage channels. She had numerous issues from health workers' salaries deductions, to the Ayadecare “1000 naira” Ponzi to using healthcare facility assets for political campaigns, to fallout with the state NMA for interfering with their elections as commissioner, Betta was all around shady. Covid was another opportunity to show her loot skills with the Fake COVID-19 Equipment Allegations & the popular “vote of no confidence” passed on her by her colleagues in the state after loads of non-transparency in her dealings, to the Obudu German Hospital scandal a project full of deceit that cost the state over 2 billion naira of taxpayers' money, Betta was on fire & she caught the eyes of the looters in Abuja, she was appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in 2023 & after 140 days was suspended for what she does best. Betta formally instructed the Accountant-General of the Federation to bypass civil service rules and transfer ₦585.1 million into the private bank account of a project accountant. This violated Nigeria's Public Sector Financial Regulation Act of 2009, which strictly outlaws paying bulk public funds into individual accounts. Before this casted her, her ministry claimed to have directly distributed ₦20,000 cash grants to over three million vulnerable Nigerian households during the Christmas season, a systemic treasury-bleeding operation that had no public evidence of such grant receivers, that alone was over 60 billion unaccounted for. Betta was also heavily entangled in an institutional collapse involving the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) which is under her ministry, after the NSIPA coordinator was arrested for moving billions without authorization, counter-allegations accused Betta’s ministry leadership of weaponizing the agency as a personal "ATM". She did all this in 140 days, she shocked the APC who never seen a young thief move so fast so they suspended her and rewarded her with a position in the 2027 APC presidential campaign team for future loot jobs 😭😭😔 Loot Fact: Since Buhari formed the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management & Social Development in 2019, all its appointed ministers have been investigated by the EFCC for missing funds in total of ₦81.8 Billion Naira plus an additional $1.3 Million USD. Wow
