I found this gif on my laptop. Literally have no idea where it came from.

If there's no known takeover from the PHP vulns published last Thursday, why was the CVE so high? Something seems broken.

Because AI is still more accurate than the magic 8 ball I used for development decisions in the past.

me tearing my hair out: no Claude I do not want you to fork and vendor a 1.5mb client library to patch like three lines because the rust version doesn't support the thing out of the box. Write like 30 lines of FFI dawg.

Remember very vividly when some guy on here who is a political expert and paid to understand demographics said something like "millennials just don't understand 9/11 because they weren't around for it." I was like "my dude, I was in high school."
Not a single person outside the millennial generation understands how old millennials actually are

So in the age of AI, having too many contributions are worse than having none at all?

lol duh
Figma doesn’t want you to use MCP Amazon doesn’t want you to shop with agents Reddit won’t let Claude access threads X won’t let ChatGPT read tweets It’s starting. This happened with APIs 8 years ago.

The goal of Rust isn't really speed on its own so it's not really surprising he got it to go faster? That's part of the problem with not looking under the hood. Speed at what consequence? Are the trade-offs acceptable?
I have mixed feelings about this talk. The bits about appreciating both what was and what's to come is great. The parts where he talks about vibe-coding huge codebases in a language he can't even read are...more worrisome. youtu.be/vDjW_dRyKXY?si=uao-…

By it I mean the screensaver. Really should have quoted the other tweet.

You know you are in for some *content* when the introduction to the book you are reading is a quarter of the reading material.

Some AI model will predict an exact date for the second coming and we'll get to speed run apocalyptic cults, but now with algorithms instead of fake moon phases

I basically refuse to use auto mode and stop Claude as soon as I see shenanigans. I don't think people purely vibe coding do anything like this and it's a reason why people wind up with horseshit.

> Will don't you use Claude YES IT'S REALLY FUCKING CONFUSING ON HOW IT MAKES SHIT THIS BAD I NEVER HAVE THIS ISSUE BUT THEN AGAIN I DON'T LET IT DO STUPID SHIT I think part of the issue is the "stupid shit" starts compounding.

The comments from the people trying to defend 0.6x as "being ambiguous" are hilarious.
you truly can't make this stuff up

Flew to Raleigh connecting through CLT recently. You would have thought "Red Hat" was a brand of clothing. Dudes walking around where every piece of their clothing had "Red Hat" on it.
There's so much cool software development in North Carolina, and I'm surely missing more. One of, if not the, biggest tech hubs outside of VHCOL cities made it an obvious place to continue bootstrapping The Consensus. Excited to move there this winter. eatonphil.com/northcarolina.…

it could be strongly argued that nosql came to pass years ago because some people didn't know about database indexes and/or how they worked

Type one always existed. Fixing failing companies is the job of a hired exec. The difference is that companies now are way more often failing because they’ve fundamentally lost PMF in the AI era. Type two is new. You used to not be able to build a $1B company without somebody who knew what a database index is. That is not longer true, and the amount of work to make those companies good at engineering is not worth it.

I wonder if people remember that the entire idea of “reviewing code” was an extremely niche idea until about 15 years ago.
