#BombayHighCourt permits withdrawal of a petition challenging the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Act, 2026, with liberty to file afresh, after flagging the lack of specific factual pleadings. Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna observed that the challenge was abstract and lacked a concrete cause of action. The Bench declined counsel’s request to amend the pleadings. The 70-year-old petitioner argued that 60-day public notices and police inquiries into conversion intentions infringe Article 25 and the right to privacy. The Bench also asked the petitioner to address the difficulties citizens would face under the new law and cite two Pune incidents involving prosecutions under it.
