#climatechange #wildfires #drought #floods #food A little thread about #FoodSecurity* & the Climate Clue* It’s Bad. Very bad.
‘Worst we’ve known’ UK turns to imports as drought and heat hit vegetable crops Except the same thing is happening everywhere so there will BE NO IMPORTS soon and there WILL BE NO FOOD!!! And if @andyburnham isn’t having COBR meetings about this he’s 🤪 theguardian.com/business/202…

Wonder how Britain (particularly TV and politics) would be reshaped if we started to name and shame the enablers as well as the perps?

Nooooo! I understand that this is because there's some serious IT and systems work to do to make this happen. (Carers' Allowance has been left behind in recent modernisation.) But this really isn't good enough. Carers can't wait another 4 - 5 years for this!
Ignore everything I have posted about the end of the cliff-edge for Carers Allowance. Chancellor has just revealed the change will not happen until April 2030! So the tax rate on an extra 1p above the expected £212 threshold from April expected to be 895000% on the penny or 8950% on an extra £1.

Last week's Covid Inquiry report into care was a devastating verdict on @MattHancock's failures during the pandemic. His response: silence. He doesn't care. Show him we still do; sign our petition to hold him accountable. c.org/ysmQvTmpFt

The latest on the coming cost of living crunch from @emilygosden Household energy bills are forecast to surge by 27 per cent to an average of £2,192 a year from January, leaving consumers facing the highest domestic gas prices yet Renewed conflict between the US and Iran in recent weeks has pushed the wholesale gas price to a fresh four-year high, after months of disruption to shipments of liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz Ofgem’s energy price cap is due to rise from £1,723 a year now to £2,192 a year in January, according to a new forecast by EDF, one of Britain’s biggest energy suppliers. It could then rise again to £2,389 a year from April All of which will add to questions over whether John Healey's planned intervention on energy bills - increasing the warm home discount for those on benefits - will be enough... thetimes.com/business/energy…

Trump's social filter has gone so much, how long before he uses the 'f word' constantly along side 'shit' 'piss' 'ass' and whatever else he says now.

To make it more absurd they then abandoned the live sentencing feed before the judge had finished because it was time for the weather. Is it intern week at #bbcnews? @newswatchbbc
#BBCNews abandoned Burnham's Downing Street speech on rough sleeping to cover the sentencing of an American singer, Chris Brown. BBC's priorities and news judgments are shot to pieces. @BBCNews @newswatchbbc

Exciting to see the PM's focus, resources going in and a real drive to solve rough sleeping. But I'm worried we get everyone in & and then they trickle back out unless there's more to ensure stable homes & affordable rent. I'm a stuck record but...lift the LHA freeze!
PM Andy Burnham will host a rough sleeping summit today with experts from the homelessness sector. Will they get “everyone in” from the streets by Christmas? Frontline workers tell me they’re really pleased with the sentiment and energy Burnham has put behind it but think it unlikely. Torrential rain over the weekend is a reminder of how bleak being exposed to the elements on the street can be. But do we have the housing for thousands of people?

And don’t use them indoors! 👇🏻 Carbon monoxide poisoning
To people buying gas camping stoves to use in power cuts please be aware that if you live in a rented flat their use indoors may be prohibited under your tenancy agreement. Always best to check. #Emergency #Storms #PowerCuts

Just had a scam email that wasn't addressed to me directly, telling me my hardware wallet needed an immediate update. I thought this was strange because I didn't know what a hardware wallet was. Turns out it's something to do with crypto which I have NEVER used or dabbled in. But I'm sure some people might lose a lot of money if they fall for it. Be careful out there lovely people.

It's a moral issue. You can't just tear up the social security contract without warning. It's bad enough that the pension eligibility age has kept rising. Leaving people fearing for their future constantly is beyond the pale. The tax and NI were paid.
Unfortunately not, and this is the problem. The average pensioner receives substantially more in pensions, health and other benefits than they contributed in tax/NI during their working lives. (Difficult to calculate but some estimates put the average difference at around £200K). The reasons for this underfunding are 1. the ‘contributions’ were not saved - they have already been spent and 2. the level of contribution was calculated when life expectancy was 65 and people died after short illnesses, rather than spending 20 years or more receiving pensions and increasingly expensive healthcare. The fact that we can’t afford the current pension arrangements is not a moral issue; it’s a mathematical one.
