We had a great time discussing our new book "States of Ignorance" yesterday evening. Thanks to everyone who attended, to @skape_ed and @CSMCH_Edin for hosting, and to our excellent discussants @CettaMainwaring, Enda Delaney, and Abdellali Hajjat.

In this case, it gives me no joy to emphasise topicality, but our book has loads of insights into the long histories that led to today's Supreme Court ruling on #Rwanda, especially in the chapters by @mcslaven.
There are few joys quite so pure as the one felt when taking delivery of a new book, especially one filled with brilliant insights from the @seeingimmigrant team. I hope some of you (especially historians!) will read it, if you can.

Asylum applications run like a parlour game. This kind of policy can only come from people privileged enough to see everything as a game and ignorant enough to have never read a single study about the intricacies of providing evidence in an asylum case.

I'm inordinately proud of this book, which took a lot of hard work. It's properly interdisciplinary, properly empirical, properly theoretical, and properly historical. Great chapters from the project team and so many insights throughout. (Plus the endorsements are so lovely!)

Emily Carver - We actually don't know if students return home.
Let's go to someone who knows what they're talking about
Madeleine Sumption(Migration Observatory, Oxford) - People do return home after their visas expire.
