a feral @danallison lichen seen growing on an @elkenmist log arch
last night i told this man (slumped) that i thought his dog was thirsty bc it was licking the ground
he said "dont talk shit about my dog"
i defused, asked the man's name
he said "your worstfucking nightmare"
i said "huh i've never met someone with the last name nightmare"
he did not get the joke but continuing to explain it to him seemed to de/con/fuse him, like throwing rice to count in front of a vampire

This is, unreservedly, my favorite account of an ambassador behaving badly, from a diplomatic oral history site. I read this years ago and cannot forget it, and you won’t either. (If they made this a movie, it’d be R rated.)

a moral panic about people falsely associated with poly people who want to hold some property in common, prepare for an imminent apocalypse and think working really really hard together allows shaping the eschaton thru becoming a cocreator with god?
what year is it?

One of my favorite historical anecdotes is from the Smoot Hearings, specifically from Senator Penrose (R-PA)
Ok, this is fascinating: people are 80% accurate at judging when someone isn't flirting, but only ~27% accurate at detecting when someone *is* flirting, and the latter is much more sexually dimorphic!
A lot more people are flirting with you than you think!
got assaulted today in front of my home by a man with a knife, and it only took police 30 minutes to respond!
oh and they didn't cuff or arrest him because "booking is full" 🙃
very lucky that this guy was pretty drunk and easy to subdue, and very thankful my roommate was prepared to bring him down
and the responding officers were great when they were able to finally respond
