Today is World Prematurity Day 2025 — an important reminder of the ongoing challenge posed by preterm birth, particularly in twin pregnancies.
Over 50% of twins are born prematurely, with a significantly higher risk of neonatal morbidity and mortality compared to singletons. These early births are often the result of spontaneous preterm labour or medically indicated delivery due to complications such as selective growth restriction.
Twin pregnancies require tailored surveillance and proactive management. As clinicians, we must continue to:
🔹 Recognise and stratify risk early
🔹 Optimise antenatal monitoring
🔹 Plan timing and mode of delivery based on the best available evidence
Improving outcomes for twins born too soon is possible — but it demands collaboration, expertise, and continued research.

Through the Uncertainty, Together 🤝
Childbirth can bring fear, doubt, and overwhelming emotion — especially when the path isn’t straightforward. 🤍
In messages from several families, one theme echoed clearly:
Reassurance matters. 🌿
I’m deeply moved by the trust so many patients placed in me during their most vulnerable moments.
To be a calm presence through uncertainty is a privilege I never take lightly. 👩⚕️✨
Emotional wellbeing is just as essential as physical care — which is why I’m proud to support the work of the Society for Reproductive and Infant Psychology (SRIP), an international organisation and charity championing the psychological health of parents, babies, and families. 🧠👶
