MUHAMED DIEYE INDICTED IN $373 MILLION BANK ACCOUNT TAKEOVER Muhamed Dieye, 35, of Dallas, was indicted as the ringleader of a nationwide bank-account-takeover conspiracy involving nearly 3,000 victims whose accounts held more than $373 million. A federal grand jury returned a 22-count indictment on August 26 charging Dieye and 13 others with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, bank fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. The indictment was unsealed November 3 after the arrest of co-defendant Terrence Dudley in Florida. Prosecutors say the group used stolen personal information, counterfeit IDs, SIM swaps, and corrupt insiders at banks and phone companies to access accounts at Truist, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and others. One attempted wire was for $2 million to Emirates Islamic Bank. Dieye was arrested at a JFK airport gate while trying to board a one-way flight to Malaysia. He and his family had shipped belongings to Kenya. He remains in federal custody in the Northern District of Texas. If convicted he faces up to 30 years on the bank fraud conspiracy charge.
