H.E. Minister Amb. @KhadijaMakhzumi officially launched a high-level, two-day workshop in Mogadishu today focused on advancing Somali women’s leadership. Organized by the Somali Gender Equality Movement (SOMGEM), this forum brings together civil society and women leaders to bridge the gap between policy and practice. The Minister reaffirmed that women’s leadership is central to Somalia’s development, serving as the cornerstone of a resilient and inclusive society. During her keynote, the Minister highlighted transformative legislative strides, including the 30% quota secured in the Electoral Law and Political Parties Bill. With the Cabinet’s approval of the GBV Prevention, FGM Prevention, and Family Affairs bills, the Ministry is institutionalizing protection and progress. We look forward to the practical recommendations from this workshop to further strengthen our national strategy for gender parity and empowerment. #Somalia #WomenInLeadership #HumanRights

Founder of SGEM, Zainab M. Hassan, reflected on 10 years of achievements and called for the Sabrina Law — honoring the memory of Sabrina, a young girl tragically killed and tortured by her stepmother. SGEM stands for justice, protection, and dignity for Somali girls.
