Don't do hallucinogens. Lifelong mental complications are a real risk. I can still trigger derealization on the fly and get persistent visual snow on walls, the sky, etc - 16 years after a 5 min Salvia trip.

When I was first laid off, I'd heard all the stories from friends about how bad Obamacare exchanges were, etc, and I didn't really understand my options. Since my wife was pregnant I kept COBRA, and paid ~$1776/month figuring I'd change once the baby was born.
It ended up being the biggest waste of money of my life, once the baby was born, I switched to an exchange plan and got a plan in the same exact network with similar deductibles and a higher out-of-pocket maximum for $50/month after tax credits.
If you're laid off or out of work, go lookup your health insurance options on your exchange, because it's likely that you can get free or very cheap health insurance with a low income. When I was at $5k/month, I was only paying $50/month which helped a lot.
Note that exchanges typically do not show the actual price if you or your child qualify for additional tax credits through your state's human services.
Example: my child received around $500-$600/month of tax credits, but on the exchange it showed this lumped into my cost, the updated cost usually comes back in a month or two after your state human services agency does the math.
I found that working with an agent from the health insurance network you're seeking is very helpful since they can speak to additional child tax credits, estimate true costs, etc, and the exchanges themselves are not 100% up-to-date on what providers are available within a plan's network. Highly recommend.

Sad to see IMO, even though I don't go to the Doctor, health insurance is good to have for unforeseen negative externalities.
