A political party attempting to put investigative journalists in prison for ten fucking years due to them *check notes* uhh doing their job is some serious banana republic shit
STATEMENT: Reform UK has reported ITV, its board, and its undercover reporters to the police. Some of the crimes carry up to 10 years in prison. They forged a passport. They directly interfered in elections and almost certainly altered the results. Being paid to “canvass” for Reform in crucial wards we lost by a few dozen votes. They lied to a veteran about their service and left him “violated”. This is unprecedented. The police are now involved. Scrutiny of political parties is one thing. But anyone breaking the law to try and ruin the lives of Reform’s staff, members or volunteers will be reported to the police and pursued relentlessly in the courts. Here’s what happened 👇

In light of the reason NYT/Siena polling I was looking back at their past cycles. I didn't realize how consistently off they were on Senate races in 2024. 27/29 of their Senate polls overestimated Dems, average miss of 5%. Worst miss was a Casey+14 poll at one point.

funniest type of antebellum guy was the proslavery intellectual who conceded to abolitionists that race was an imperfect proxy for the qualities that allegedly suited someone for slavery, and so concluded that certain classes of whites should be enslaved as well

If we hold a referendum on rejoining the EU, I suggest we use similar wording to the Singaporean referendum on joining Malaysia:

In Keir Hardie's first parliamentary speech, he distinguished between "bonâ fide working-men who have been thrown out of employment in consequence of bad trade" and "loafers and criminals" who he explictly didn't want to help

Steve Witkoff to Putin: You talk so much about my president, President Trump, being a humanitarian. You are a humanitarian also, sir, and I salute that, I commend you, and I thank you again.
It suits the Kremlin to have Washington believe that a deal with Putin is just around the corner. One more meeting, one more concession, one more phone call. And while the Americans wait for a peace deal, Russia keeps waging war. Russia gets concessions. Ukraine gets pressure. Kushner has again demanded that Ukraine stop striking Russian oil refineries. This works well for the Kremlin: Washington is already making concessions to Russia while demanding concrete concessions from Ukraine. As long as Moscow keeps hopes of a deal alive, the US may hold off on new sanctions and persuade Kyiv to accept additional terms for the sake of successful negotiations. Talks can go on forever. Even while the war continues. Discussing a new document or a possible summit allows American mediators to report progress toward peace. Russia retains direct access to Washington and the opportunity to sell its version of why the war began and what it would take to end it. No luck with peace? Let’s talk business. Dmitriev has reported discussions about joint projects, including nuclear-powered data centers. Walking away from the talks would then mean giving up the benefits the US administration hopes to gain. Open-ended demands allow Moscow to keep bargaining. Without a definitive list of Russian conditions, every round can end with statements about progress and the need for further consultations. Meanwhile, Moscow can keep adding demands. Take Putin’s October 16 statement about a “security zone” in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, which he does not intend to discuss in peace negotiations. Russia maintains an additional territorial demand while simultaneously signaling its willingness to meet with the US. In St. Petersburg, watch what Russia actually agrees to do. Which strikes will it stop? When? Who will verify this? What security guarantees for Ukraine will it accept? Without this, another “very constructive conversation” will simply mean the Americans have had their hopes raised again. They will leave to prepare for the next meeting, and Russia will keep waging war.

On this, the morning after Sebastian Payne was knocked out in the first round of the selection contest for the Chelsea & Fulham Tory nomination, it's worth updating the map of constituencies where Seb has unsuccessfully applied.

It's so funny to me that commies are simultaneously the most extreme, dogmatic social libertarians itw while also stanning dictatorships that made rock music illegal
This is stupid, why are we appealing to the average British voter’s desire for total social fascism

they have a 95% retention rate because a kid who's been raised in an isolated cult for 18 years has basically no ability to function in modern society
Some Amish groups have a cultural practice called rumpspringa where at 18 or so they kick you out to live among "the English" (normal society) for a couple years, then at the end you decide whether to go back to being Amish again They have like a 95% retention rate
