I’m the person who deletes all my fic when I’m no longer happy with the fandom so I will ALWAYS be on the side of the author getting to choose what they do with their own works 🙂↕️
I think writers are under-appreciated despite being the backbone of fandom. Fandom would not exist without writers. But people are emboldened to treat us with less respect because we aren’t “visible” like artists (I am also an artist)

yes i do think writers should be awarded more respect and consideration, especially since the ao3 shutdown has made it very obvious that they are the backbone of fandom. no i don’t think it’s entitled to ask to be treated like human beings instead of content machines.

Time and time again, I see my friends or writers I follow myself feel hurt by the lack of reader engagement and this culture of consuming-fanfic-as-content and not as labors of love you wish to create a community around and celebrate with each other… I wish it were different.

One thing that does irk me about fan responses to Ao3 being down, and not just this particular time, is the emphasis on how they cannot go without their bedtime fanfics but the majority of readers do not give their favorite fics or writers the engagement they deserve.
