As more people discover the wonderful Joan Baez, I’m providing a mini guide on what to read/watch when learning about her. A thread.

it’s really astounding just how much latin americans hate their diaspora…such a shame to give borders that much power, to act as if a privilege afforded to you by the sacrifices of your parents and grandparents means you forfeit all connection to your culture.

Glad that she got to tell the full truth before she passed, but so devastating that she had to share such a large portion of her life being mentioned side by side with (and often secondary to) her rapist. The movement belongs to her. May her memory be a blessing.

i’m so tired of people who stan/follow β€œproblematic” white artists and try to guilt everyone else into looking past whatever offensive things they’ve done. these are public figures not make a wish kids.

The United Farm Workers union mourns the passing and celebrates the life of UFW cofounder Dolores Huerta. The greatest possible tribute to her life is for her work of organizing to continue. 1/

A painting of Dolores Huerta by Joan Baez, 2017. β€œWhenever I was on the marches with Cesar Chavez, she was always there – young and tough and brave,” Joan says.

Legendary labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta has passed away at age 96. She coined the phrase β€œSΓ, se puede,” and was a founder of the United Farm Workers Union, helping hundreds of thousands of workers achieve better working conditions since the 1960s.

Rest in Peace to the fiercely empowering Dolores Huerta. Pictured below are Joan Baez and Dolores Huerta attending the funeral of Juan de la Cruz, Di Giorgio Park, Arvin, CA, 1973.

today is October 7th, 3 years since the horrific attacks on Gaza, and 21,673 days since Israel first occupied the country in 1967. this genocide is not new, and we must continue to support Palestine and do everything we can to stop this monstrosity. #freepalestine πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ

This shot may or may not be from 1970 ... I can’t be so sure, since Christian Rose seemed to be her primary photographer in 1973.

After finally dating these pictures, I am about 99% sure that these are specifically from 1976, because of Joan’s haircut. nitter.gq/silksofbohemia/status/…

I believe she cut it again since her hair was considerably long in 1971 and cut in layers in 1973. This hairstyle is very reminiscent to her 1970 Bob, pictured here at the Isle of Wight festival, but slightly longer. It is difficult to differentiate the years as a result.
