Decades ago, Kannada writer Vivek Shanbhag read a story by Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer in English translation. “My mind instinctively filled the gaps and created a meaningful literary experience.” Hyphen, a new literary journal founded and published by Shanbhag, is driven by the belief that it is both possible and necessary to make such encounters available to a much wider readership.

Yesterday, @IndianExpress reported an unprecedented rupture inside the Election Commission: TWO of its three members objecting on record, 14 times in 10 months, to decisions taken without their knowledge.
Today, the second part of our investigation looks at the concern Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi flagged most often: Who really controls our electoral rolls?
We followed that question to Goa, where we found something deeply concerning.

Three of the six books on this year’s Booker Prize shortlist explore masculinity and male sexuality. Interestingly, last year’s Booker Prize winner, David Szalay, also placed modern masculinity at the centre of his story, Flesh.

The Election Commission is three people, not ONE: a Chief and two Election Commissioners, equal in rank.
By law they decide together. Unanimously if they can, by majority if they can't. Two of three is a majority.
