Pharmac says there are no plans to change eligibility criteria for free Covid-19 vaccination. There's a false screenshot going around suggesting that Pharmac is ending free Covid-19 vaccination for a wide range of people beginning July 1. Again, it's false.
Anyone receiving a funded COVID-19 vaccination in New Zealand must meet the current eligibility criteria. Pharmac has been responsible for the funding and management of COVID-19 vaccines since 1 July 2023, including setting the eligibility criteria. Before this, eligibility for funded COVID-19 vaccines was determined by the Ministry of Health. The current eligibility criteria were introduced by the Ministry of Health in May 2023. Pharmac has not made changes to the funded eligibility criteria for COVID-19 vaccines and there are no changes planned for 1 July 2024. The current eligibility criteria will still apply from 1 July 2024. We would consult publicly on any proposed changes to funded eligibility criteria before making a decision. Consultation is an important step in our process. We use it to listen to the public, healthcare professionals and the healthcare sector. We understand people are interested in who has access to COVID-19 vaccines. We encourage everyone who is eligible
