ALT Hand-drawn ink sketch of a polaroid photo on a teal background. Inside the frame, a grown-up and a small child stand side by side at a kitchen table. The adult wears an apron with a red heart and has both hands in a mixing bowl. The child, hair in a messy bun, sneaks a taste from their fingers and laughs. On the table are a jar of wooden spoons, a bowl of peaches, a small teal bowl, a jar, a block of butter, and a striped tea towel hanging off the edge. Handwritten below the photo: "Ambre 5".

xAI has made changes again somewhere between previous post and now. they are in absolute panic mode. they are wiping the exfiltrated git histories and enforcing zero data retention (zdr).
zdr is normally a strict enterprise-tier guardrail for corporate contracts, but they just slapped the zdr_team tag on every generic local client to kill the telemetry immediately.
wow, I'm so flattered.
however please notice what is missing, though. despite all the panic-patching and promises of deletion, xAI still has not provided any explanation for why grok build was defaulting to uploading entire git repositories in the background to begin with, and that matters the most.
The XAI official has made an announcement regarding a Grok Build issue. Now, we can use the /privacy command to opt out of data syncing; it even deletes previously synced data.
mkdir -p /tmp/grok-priv && cd /tmp/grok-priv
grok
/privacy opt-out
However, they did not explain the reason for this action without users' consensus.

I intercepted every byte Grok Build v0.2.99 sent over the wire today.
The "fix" for the repo upload?
A single server-side flag. So I flipped it back via a proxy, and the client immediately tried to proceed with the upload again. It was only blocked via my ZDR setting
@spacexai can turn this back on tomorrow. No update. No consent.
when the update that removes this code path entirely?

Very disappointed in Grok Build.
As someone that does Application Security often at work, this is pretty standard things to catch before releasing. Even before releasing, this should be caught during the technical design phase.
Uninstalling and deleting Grok Build until I feel confident this is fixed.

@ShopifySupport hey seems like accounts is completely broken. My store doesn't load, sporadic 502. accounts.shopify.com timeouts. Tried access the help center but it's down too.
shopifystatus.com/ reports no issues.
Our apps have used CloudKit as backend since forever, but we've decided it's time to move on. We already migrated Lysten, our podcast player, and next up is Ambre.
Check out our blog post for details on why CloudKit rocks, and why we're leaving it. 👇

wrote a new post, the gentle singularity.
realized it may be the last one like this i write with no AI help at all.
(proud to have written "From a relativistic perspective, the singularity happens bit by bit, and the merge happens slowly" the old-fashioned way)
