The other 70% is known as delegated legislation. But what exactly does that mean, and what role does the Legislative Council play in scrutinising it?

Craziness. Trump’s planned rollback of methane rules would emit 60 million more tons of the gas (80 times more warming than CO2 over 20 years) while his own EPA admits it would cut oil prices by just 0.14% and increase production by a miniscule 0.09%.

'Gas or starvation' – that's what the Chair of Australia's biggest pipeline company, @APAGroup, said to Natasha, a 22-year-old who will live with the consequences of #climate change far longer than he will.
The choice isn't gas or starvation. It's a planet we can live on, vs. one we can't.

In 2025, global CO₂ concentration rose to a record 426.8 parts per million. That's 153% of pre-industrial levels.
Every additional ppm traps more heat and supercharges the ocean and the atmosphere.

“After days of confusion, the West Australian government has confirmed it is now actively investigating repeated large methane emissions from Chevron's Gorgon gas project off the state's Pilbara coast.
“The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) was initially unclear on whether it had jurisdiction over the plumes, which had been observed by a United Nations-linked satellite for the past year.
“But a government spokesperson said DWER was "working hard" to establish the cause of the emissions, and engaging with Chevron to determine the appropriate response.”

🌎 From the Andes of Peru to Hamyang, South Korea, what happens when climate-affected communities take major emitters to court?
Across the world, communities facing the impacts of climate change are increasingly turning to litigation to ask a fundamental question: Who should be held accountable for climate-related harm?
Next Tuesday, November 3, Saúl Luciano Lliuya, the Peruvian farmer and mountain guide behind the landmark Lliuya v. RWE climate case, will join farmer plaintiffs from South Korea’s Ma v. KEPCO case for a special roundtable in Seoul.
Bringing together plaintiffs, legal practitioners, and climate science perspectives from Peru, Germany, and South Korea, the discussion will explore:
⚖️ How can major emitters’ contributions to climate harm be established?
🔬 What role can climate science play in proving causation?
🌱 What do these cases mean for the evolving landscape of corporate climate accountability?
Featured speakers include:
• Saúl Luciano Lliuya, plaintiff in Lliuya v. RWE
• Jae-Cheol Nam, Research Professor, Seoul National University; former Administrator of the Korea Meteorological Administration
• Caroline Schroeder, Communications Officer, @Germanwatch
• Francesca Mascha Klein, Legal Officer for Strategic Litigation at Germanwatch (remote)
• Yeny Kim, Attorney, @forourclimate
• Yong-un Ma, Seong-yeol Hwang, and Kibong Song, plaintiffs in Ma v. KEPCO

Historic: for the 1st time in any quarter, Australia’s big batteries out-supplied gas in the evening peak. Q3 2026, main grid (NEM):
>Gas generation: lowest Q3 since 2000 (down 34% to 881 MW)
>Renewables: record 44.3%
>Wholesale prices: down 27%
>Solar + battery homes: 75% less peak grid draw vs solar-only
Batteries in, gas out = cheaper electricity: When zero-marginal-cost electrons take over the 6 PM peak, expensive gas peakers lose their pricing power
