Sometimes, the biggest business opportunities come from recognising a problem others have overlooked.
For Nicholas Ouma, founder of @Kismatcredit and a Sinapis alumnus, that opportunity emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many small business owners struggled to access the financing they needed to keep their businesses running.
Drawing on his eight years of banking experience, Nicholas decided to address this gap by starting Kismat. What began as a small operation has since grown into a team of 20 employees, with annual loan volumes rising from approximately KSh 14 million to over KSh 100 million and the number of loans doubling from 1,000 to 2,000 annually.
As Kismat expanded, so did the need for stronger financial management and more strategic decision-making. Through the mentorship and support of Sinapis, Nicholas gained new perspectives that have helped him navigate this stage of growth.
Today, Kismat is reaching more entrepreneurs and families through financing for business needs, education and other essential expenses.

Growth doesn't just mean more sales.
It can mean more customers to serve, more people to manage, more decisions to make, more cash tied up in the business and more pressure on the founder.
At some point, growth becomes less about doing more and more about making better choices about what happens next.
What feels hardest in your business right now?
Cast your vote then tell us why.
Over the past 15 years, we’ve seen how businesses do more than generate revenue. They create jobs, support families and strengthen communities. With the right support, entrepreneurs can take that impact even further.
Recognising that supporting entrepreneurs takes collective effort, we recently brought together ecosystem leaders, from entrepreneur support organisations and investors to consultants and other ecosystem players, for honest conversations about how we can better support entrepreneurs.
By sharing knowledge, building trust and connecting our efforts, we can create better opportunities for businesses to grow and strengthen their impact.

What began with land has grown into a business creating opportunities in property development, agribusiness, and the surrounding community.
For Joseph Kamata, founder of @NulandsKE and a Sinapis Ascent alumnus, the journey has gone beyond helping people acquire land. Today, Nulands also helps clients develop their properties while exploring new opportunities in agribusiness. But for Joseph, building a successful business isn’t just about the services he offers or the customers he serves.
It’s about the impact he creates. That impact extends beyond his business. Outside Narok, a well developed by Nulands provides water to 50 families.
Beyond the impact Nulands is creating in communities, Joseph’s journey has also involved finding new opportunities to grow the business. Through our Ascent program, Joseph and his team strengthened their business systems and identified new opportunities for growth. One of these opportunities led to a partnership with Mace Foods, whose team also took part in the Ascent program alongside Nulands. Through this partnership, Nulands is now growing cayenne peppers for local and export markets.
Joseph’s journey is a reminder that business growth isn’t just about expanding what you do. It’s about finding new ways to create value for customers and communities.

Running your operations through five different WhatsApp groups works perfectly when you are managing a handful of orders. But as your business expands, those informal systems become the exact reason things fall through the cracks. Deliveries are delayed, quality control drops, and you are constantly stepping in to apologize to clients. The systems didn't fail because you stopped working hard; they failed because they broke under the weight of your success.
You cannot manage a scalable, fast-growing enterprise using the same informal tools you used as a startup.
Our Accelerator programs provide rigorous, holistic support beyond the classroom for founders who need to replace their manual hustle with uncompromising, institutional structures. We target the exact operational bottlenecks holding back high-growth businesses.
If you stepped out of your company's daily group chats for a week, would your operations survive or collapse?

At first, founders often are the system.
You remember the customer details.
You know what needs to happen next.
You solve problems as they appear.
Then the business grows - and suddenly, what worked before starts creating bottlenecks.
Processes, financial systems, customer tracking, delegation and clear roles become less of a “nice to have” and more essential to growth.
Where are you on that journey?

Faith can shape more than our approach to business; it can influence the kind of leaders we become and the difference we make in the lives of others.
For Grace Mbugua, founder of @jeilocollection and a Sinapis alumna, faith has become part of how she leads her business. It’s reflected in a team that stands together through difficult seasons, shares a common purpose, and recognises that their work can make a difference in other people’s lives.
In this episode of the Scaling What Matters podcast, Grace reflects on how her understanding of faith in business has evolved and what it means to see business as more than just work. Sometimes, it’s about recognising the people God places in your path and allowing your faith to guide how you serve them.

What if the success of your business was measured not just by how much you grow, but by how many lives you impact along the way?
For Fred Mugisha, a Kingdom entrepreneur and Sinapis Aspire alumnus in Rwanda, this perspective has shaped his approach to business.
What began with three traditional beehives has expanded to 50 traditional and 15 modern beehives. Beyond beekeeping, Fred manages a diversified farm that encompasses cattle rearing, poultry and crop farming.
As his enterprise continues to grow, so does its potential to create opportunities for others in his community.
Through the Aspire programme, Fred gained practical skills to integrate his faith into his approach to business. He has since put these lessons into practice by sharing his land with community members who cultivate their own crops and share the harvest with him.
His commitment to supporting fellow entrepreneurs extends beyond his farm. Fred also works with other beekeepers to improve their production and explore new opportunities in the honey business.
Fred’s journey demonstrates how applying business knowledge can strengthen an enterprise while creating opportunities for others to thrive.

You have built a remarkable foundation, but realizing the full potential of your enterprise requires a fundamental shift in how you lead.
Fast-growing, innovative businesses that create many jobs scale aggressively because their founders transition from directing every task to actively empowering top-tier executives. Unlocking the next phase of your growth demands an organizational structure where highly capable leaders are trusted to make high-stakes decisions without constant oversight.
Growth is no longer about how much you can personally manage; it is about how effectively you can equip others to execute the strategy. When you hire the right people and give them the true authority to lead, your capacity for impact becomes limitless.

Every business starts somewhere.
For many founders, the first customers come from their existing network. Others discover the power of referrals, social media, or simply getting out there and selling.
But eventually, the question changes from:
“How do I get my first customers?”
to:
“How do I make customer acquisition more consistent?”
What worked for you at the beginning?
Vote and share the story behind your first customer in the comments.

A great leader doesn’t just raise the bar. They help others rise to meet it.
But what does that look like in practice? It means setting a higher standard, leading by example, and helping your team grow into what they’re capable of achieving. It also means recognising that excellence is not a one-time achievement, but a continuous pursuit.
In this episode of the Scaling What Matters podcast, Sinapis CEO Matthew Rohrs and Nendo founder Mark Kaigwa explore how leaders can challenge their teams to grow while creating an environment where people bring out the best in one another.
