We’re hiring an Assistant Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience/Psychology here at @RiceUniversity! This is such an exciting and supportive place, especially for exploring ways to bridge basic science with real-world impact. Please spread the word!

📣 New SCIMaP preprint! In three studies, we show that communicating the economic impact of NIH funding cuts—especially with interactive quizzes and maps—decreases approval and motivates action to oppose the cuts, across the political spectrum. 🧵 1/8

We scaled these insights by creating a public website, where people can learn about how cuts to science funding will impact their local area. Data from website users offers converging evidence of effectiveness in terms of changing approval and motivating sharing. 7/8
Many thanks to the incredible interdisciplinary team who made this work possible! @joshuasweitz, @falklab, @malar0ne, @angiefagerlin, @ellenpetersjdm, @Friendly_Cities, Dani Cosme, and Colin Cooke

Vought has ordered a halt on all extramural NIH funding for the rest of the FY. No words. You cannot let this stand @SenateDems @SenateGOP @NIHDirector_Jay @hubermanlab

This is insane. If this holds and 50% of all grants are suddenly required to be funded for full five years instead of one year (and it sounds like this policy will pass, given the quote from Battacharya?), that means even without any ostensible budget cut, NIH funding next year will go down 1 - (0.5 + 0.5*0.2) = 40%!
Researchers’ chances of winning a grant from the National Institutes of Health have dropped under a new policy. scim.ag/45h38OS
Excited to share my new lab website!
The Learning & Behavior Change Lab will launch at Rice in July 2026. I’ll be recruiting over the next year! @RiceUniversity

Shoutout to @owlstown for the great and easy-to-use website builder for academics!
In this letter in @PNASNews, we respond to a comment on our recent paper.
Although multiple factors shape whether we act on our intentions, intentions are valuable precursors of behavior that can guide the iterative development of interventions.

Out now in @NatureHumBehav: Cuts to NIH funding will impact the economy and employment nationwide. We visualize these losses and advocate for a theory-driven approach to communicating local, self-relevant impact. w/ @joshuasweitz + SCIMaP team:
