Where is Canada's 2035 climate target? The deadline established in Canadian law to set the country's next climate milestone passed yesterday, without a word from government.

Premier Eby said that BC NDP would drop the #CarbonPrice if federal gov drops it. Think the #CarbonTax is costly? Wait until you see #ClimateChange. We respond to calls to rollback #ClimateAction without proposing realistic alternatives: wcel.org/media-release/west-… #bcpoli

Fossil fuel lobbyists have spent billions to convince us that serious #ClimateAction is too expensive or too inconvenient.
But the droughts, floods & fires are all around us. And they are massively expensive, inconvenient, heartbreakingly fatal. #ClimateEmergency #ClimateJustice

1/ Here's a🧵on why the record shattering extremes in Europe are so unsettling for climate scientists.
It's increasingly looking that we've underestimated the impacts of #ClimateBreakdown...

We need a majority of people to know 5 things, which they largely do not:
1. Pollution from oil, coal and gas is heating the earth and causing dangerous weather.
2. All the climate scientists agree.
3. We must move quickly if we are to save a livable climate.
4. There are exciting solutions available right now, most of which save money.
5. Big polluting companies knew, lied, and stopped action. They need to pay to clean up their mess.
I mean it's almost like they have every financial incentive to delay, lobby against climate action and propose false solutions, believing that they won't be held accounted for the results. #SueBigOil
"I thought fossil fuel firms could change. I was wrong." Great piece by @CFigueres.
I feel exactly same way - they could have used massive profits to ⬇️ GHGs, align with @IEA's call for no new production & invest in renewables at scale - but they didn't. aljazeera.com/opinions/2023/…

Alarm bells should be ringing everywhere. We seem to have underestimated the chance of climate breakdown causing simultaneous harvest failure in the world's major breadbaskets. It's an issue I discuss in Regenesis, but it appears much worse than we thought nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

It's D-Day for fossil fuel companies.
Decarbonisation will happen with or without them - whether that's in time for humanity to get through the challenges we know are coming remains to be seen.

If you fly over British Columbia, the most acute problem affecting our forests becomes clear; it’s not just Fairy Creek, old growth logging or clearcutting, it’s the astonishing rate of logging that is happening due to the provincially set Annual Allowable Cut.

Currently, over 869 k ha have burned in BC thus far in 2023 and most of the fire season is ahead of us. ciffc.net/situation/ This means 2023 is already the 3rd highest seasonal total since 1950.
When you hear about climate-related #heatwaves, #floods or #droughts, remember: In 2022 alone, five oil companies — ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, BP, and TotalEnergies — more than doubled their profits to an all-time historic record of $200 billion.

Celebrating 2 #climatechange wins today. First, I presented last night to @TownofViewRoyal
Council & they voted to work to #SueBigOil! suebigoil.ca/view-royal-vote… 1 of 3.
Thrilled that View Royal recognized that residents cannot afford the costs of climate change while #BigOil pockets the profits without taking responsibility. Celebrating by wearing my #SueBigOil t-shirt. Buy your own at suebigoil.ca/visit-our-store… (2 of 3)
On a more personal note, also celebrating that @VECoop is installing solar panels on my home today. Made possible by #CanadaGreenerHomes. (3 of 3)
