Hey Yemi, you want to learn Arabic? May I inform you that an Arab man who speaks Arabic will fail those questions if his deeds are bankrupt. Do you know the problem you and others like you have? You rely too much on your brain and you think everything is within your capacity to comprehend. When it comes to the unseen and religion, it is not. If you have read foundational books on cognitive science notably: Thinking, Fast and Slow by Nobel Laureate Daniel Kahneman, you will see that recognized geniuses admitted to the flaws of human brain. In fact, they used the word “highly flawed” to show that our limitations. As humans, our cognitive capacity is severely limited. We suffer from memory illusions, cognitive blind spots, and our brains misfire under basic physical stress. If science admits your physical brain cannot even process this world perfectly, why do you think you can rely on it to decode the spiritual realm? Let’s I forget, you aren’t even a genius. And from what we have seen, nothing about you qualifies you to be a genius. This means, you need to know your place. To those who seek to understand, those questions (Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your prophet?) represent the core foundation of a person's existence. They are meant to test your true allegiance and what you dedicated your life to.  Let it be clear that the grave is a completely different dimension. It is not just a physical hole in the ground. It is a spiritual realm where worldly laws and human biology no longer apply. The physical brain you boast about will rot in the dirt. You will not be able to pull answers from language textbooks or rely on your cognitive memory. This alone should tell Yemi that he is not using his so called “brain” well. At least, you should know your brain will cease to serve its purpose in such realm. This is to tell you that the interrogation is a strict test of the soul. An Igbo man who lived a righteous life will answer flawlessly because his soul will project its reality. An Arab hypocrite will stutter and fail because his soul is dead. The answers manifest your faith, not your vocabulary. Imam Wahb ibn Munabbih explained this perfectly. When asked if the declaration of faith was the key to Paradise, he agreed but added a profound condition: كل مفتاح له أسنان Every key has teeth. You cannot open a lock with a flat key. The teeth are your righteous actions and your sincerity. Knowing Arabic is just a flat piece of metal. Without the teeth of true faith, you will remain locked out no matter what language you speak. Allah knows best.
In Islam, when you die, two angels, Munkar and Nakir, will show up in your grave to interrogate you: Man rabbuka? (Who is your Lord?) Mā dīnuka? (What is your religion?) Man nabiyyuka? (Who is your prophet?) Fail to answer, and you’ll be tormented! Better start learning Arabic today. Apparently, even in the grave, Allah’s customer service doesn’t speak your language. 😂

Sometimes I think about the old Muslim man that gave me a napkin from his pocket and how that small moment changed my entire perception of Islam and that In sha Allah one day he’ll be informed about his seemingly small deed that would eventually lead me to Islam three years later
