From the @USCCB: "The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions." @pontifex: Why is Cardinal Cupich still at the helm in Chicago? Please prove critics wrong, who claim you are showing favoritism to the cardinal of your home city, and respectfully retire this cleric. It's long overdue.

Gravity is a novel phenomenon in the law of physics. It did not exist until 1687. Before then, no one believed that which goes up must come down. Newton added to Laws of Physics.
The Assumption of Mary is a novel dogma from 1950. It is not apostolic, and it certainly should not be a matter of salvation. 🧵 👇🏻

You don't understand Grace. Good works, properly Charity from where good works come, flows not from Faith but from Grace, just as Hope does. That is why St. Paul can say: "For by grace you have been saved through faith..." (Eph 2:8) but then further explains, "faith working through love." (Gal 5:6) "if I have all faith, so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing" (1 Cor 13:2) That Sanctifying Grace from God, received during Baptism, is what gives you Faith, Hope and Charity. Those are the gifts that St. Paul explicitly talks about in 1 Cor 13:13. "So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love" The gift of Grace must be a full, complete gift, which has all three virtues; Faith, Hope and Charity. That is why St. James can tell you "So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead." (James 2:24) You cannot harmonize James and Paul any other way.

No Protestant denies the reality of works proceeding from faith. We take Ephesians 2:8-10 (and others) literally. Faith saves. Works follow according to what God prepared in advance for us. It’s really pretty straight forward.

No, they are the same Catholic Church under the Successor of St. Peter. Some in India celebrate the Roman Rite of the Latin Church. Others celebrate the West Syrian (or Antiochene) Rite in the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. Lastly, others celebrate the East Syrian (or Chaldean) Rite in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. All are part of the One Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church. All are in communion with the Bishop of Rome, the Successor of St. Peter. All celebrate the same Sacraments. All have Apostolic Succession. They are the same Church in different locations celebrate the same Divine Mysteries.
Is not the same, since you are Catholics and they were not (until Portugal got there on 1492). So was not the Catholic the only and first? 🤷🏾🤷🏾 and yes, they have sacrament as most churches today. Tell me, did they have Marians Dogmas? 🤔🤔 and did they pray to dead people?

Ah, so you're saying you don't understand Scripture, typology and how the Kingdom works. That's ok, I'll help you out. In the Davidic Kingdom, there is a position known as the 'al-habbayith', the 'one who is over the house'. "In that day I will call my servant Eli′akim the son of Hilki′ah, and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your girdle on him, and will commit your authority to his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David; he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open." -Isiah 22:20-22 Now look at what Christ specifically tells St. Peter, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” -Matthew 16:19 Christ is in His Heavenly Kingdom, and left the earthly Kingdom in the care of he who was given the Keys.

Once again, it is "better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."
Context matters. The rock Jesus was referring to was Mount Hermon. Jesus was in Caesarea Philippi at the gates of hell when He said this. After His crucifixion, the water at the gates of hell stopped flowing. Since the scripture uses two completely different words for Peter and the rock Jesus will build His church on... the rock couldn't possibly be Peter. 📖 ...For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).

Smiles and is polite to your face...then advocates mutilating your children or killing them up till the moment they're born. Which "fruit of the Holy Spirit" does that fall under again? But yeah, super Christian outlook on life. Glad his "politeness" is what caught your attention rather than his actual policies. Any other hot takes?
US Christianity is a mess these days. The guy comes across as someone who can admit he’s wrong, who is open to hearing from opponents & manifests fruits of the Holy Spirit in his life—kindness, gentleness, peacefulness, etc. (cf Gal 5)—& the Real Christians are like “gross!!”

“Happy is the husband of a good wife; the number of his days will be doubled.” -Sirach 26:1
The Book of Sirach should be required reading for all men.

Interesting. Scripture says you're wrong. Here's Acts 1:20-22 where Peter is speaking: "For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his habitation become desolate, and let there be no one to live in it’; and ‘His office let another take.’ So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.” And from a man mentioned in Scripture, who lived and was taught directly by the Apostles... From St. Pope Clement (c 80AD) "Our apostles also knew, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that there would be strife on account of the office of the bishop. For this reason, therefore, inasmuch as they had obtained a perfect fore-knowledge of this, they appointed those [ministers] already mentioned, and afterwards gave instructions, that when these should fall asleep, other approved men should succeed them in their ministry." Letter to the Corinthians
This is a lie told by Romans to make themselves feel good about the idolatry they practice. There was no “office” established by Jesus, but a church. Peter was never a Pope, and he never had universal authority over the churches. Bible and church history, debunk the false claim by this deceitful man.

Scripture itself literally tells you this is false. You limit God to only His written word because you lack the full Deposit of Faith in your denomination. We don’t have your limitations and are not bound by your shortcomings.

1. No - I answered it. You are begging the question here. Look up the term. God ONLY speaks through Scripture. It's all we have. It is the apostolic deposit of faith. You assert there is more without proof. The apostles are dead. We have the NT.

You seem to misunderstand both the Incarnation and what Catholic means. 1. The Incarnation is when Christ unites His Divine nature to our human nature. **Christ is the Head of the Church "He is the head of the body, the church" -Colossians 1:18 **The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. "and he has put all things under his feet and has made him the head over all things for the church, which is his body" - Ephesians 1:22-23 The Church, therefore, shares in the natures of Christ, the 2nd person of the Trinity. He has 2 natures; Divine/spiritual and corporeal/physical. Therefore, the Church is both: -Spiritually ALL those who are in Christ, including those here on Earth (the Church Militant), those being purified (The Church Penitent) and those in Heaven (The Church Triumphant). -Physically the place we gather to Adore (properly worship) God, celebrate His sacraments and has a visible hierarchy instituted by Christ (Matthew 16:18, Isiah 22:20-22, Luke 22:31-32, John 21:15-17). This Church has 4 marks: ONE Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. HOLY Ephesians 5:25-27 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. CATHOLIC 1 Timothy 2: 3-4 3 This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. APOSTOLIC Matthew 28:19-20 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” Ephesians 2:19-20 So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, Jude 3 Beloved, being very eager to write to you of our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Catholic means more than "universal". It means "according to the whole". That means: 1. The whole of the Deposit of Faith: Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture 2. The whole of the Faithful: Church Militant, Church Penitent, Church Triumphant. 3. Everywhere the Body of Christ, the Eucharist, is found.

The only pride is thinking you know more than the Church. Thinking you can interpret Sacred Scripture better than all Christians before you. Catholics submit themselves to the Church. We seek to understand her doctrines and teachings but regardless of whether we fully understand, we accept her dogmas de fide. You submit to yourself and no one else. That is pride.
If you ever thought the Roman church was the true church, let this be an eye-opener. The church does not flippantly disregard the Bible. This post is dripping with pride and arrogance that rivals that of Satan in the garden when he first questioned God.

The Catholic Church did and could exist without the New Testament Scriptures. The single, and full, Deposit of Faith was given to the Church from the Apostles. She is the Pillar and Bulwark of that Truth, to safeguard and uphold it.

That's the problem. The Early Church preceded the Bible, was built by the Apostles as instructed by Christ, and has existed for 2000 years. Whereas your understanding of Scripture has existed for 200 years. When you claim "Biblical Christianity", you're admitting you don't follow Christ and His Apostles.

Ah, so when Christ tells us: "If you love me, you will keep my commandments" ...that includes good works? Are you under the impression you can attain salvation without loving God?
Replying to @rockreborn22
That's true as well. But this post was more focusing on how good works are commanded by God (they're not just optional suggestions). However they play no part in getting us to heaven.

I'm refuting it through the very words you attempted to use. If you'd prefer, I can refute it through Apostolic Tradition or through the Magisterium. Take your pick. We have all 3 available to us. I'll grant you the "Word" is the highest authority...regardless of whether that Word is spoken or written.
Odd you're refuting sola scriptura (the word is the highest authority) with sola scriptura

But the “reformation” did absolutely nothing of the kind, as countless very pious protestant converts—including many pastors, theologians, etc.—have discovered (and become Catholic as a result). Dr. David Anders was one of them. He was an avowed Calvinist, and pursued his PhD in order to disprove the Catholic Church and affirm the “reformation.” After a decade, he came out Catholic. He discovered there was absolutely nothing like protestantism ANYWHERE in ancient Christianity. Instead, he found the Catholic Church.

It has been proven, time and time again. You refuse to listen to the proof as it destroys the facade of faith you've built up around yourself. The Church, that which is called the "Pillar and Bulwark of the Truth" is defined by St. Paul by her 4 marks. One. Holy. Catholic. Apostolic. You've been told this numerous times. Each mark is found within Scripture as well as Tradition and each describe the current Catholic Church, led by the Bishop of Rome...AND NO OTHER. No other church or denomination meets the 4 marks. None. So unless you can show how your denomination does, you've failed at disproving the Catholic Church as the Body of Christ, the Bride of Christ, the Pillar and Bulwark of the Truth. Quoting St. Augustine doesn't help you when he famously said, "I would not believe in the Gospel, if the authority of the Catholic Church did not move me to do so." The Church isn't just some spiritual body of believers. It is the Body of Christ and therefore has 2 natures, JUST LIKE CHRIST. 1-Divine (Spiritual), all believers, here on Earth as well those in Purgatory and those in Heaven (Church Militant, Church Penitent, Church Triumphant). The Kingdom of God universally. 2-Human (Physical), The Kingdom of God on Earth known by her 4 marks. One. Holy. Catholic. Apostolic. Led by the Bishops, the successors of the Apostles under the Bishop of Rome to whom (and he alone) the Keys to the Kingdom were given. Prove your Church is the Body of Christ, His beloved Bride. Or just admit you're wrong.
It’s your job to prove it is, it’s already disproven by scripture since there is no such institution in the New Testament. I quoted Augustine because he said scripture was the infallible standard by which theological error can be corrected, not a church (which you said above). Your pride is too much for you to admit even the most basic things about what Augustine said. The entire page that I gave you is the most clear and succinct explanation of sola scriptura that we have from probably anyone. This isn’t news to me, Catholics are not truth seekers, they will defend their institution, no matter what the Bible or anyone says.
