Itโs #FemaleFilmmakerFriday! As I did last year, Iโm beginning my new #DirectedByWomen thread with an Indie Spirit contender. And, since itโs Christmastide, I'm bearing witness to the religious musical bio-pic THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE (2025) by Mona Fastvold. #52FilmsByWomen #1
The first of my #Noirvember #NoirDoubleFeatures comes ready-made straight from the recent Criterion flash sale: THE KILLERS (1946) & THE KILLERS (1964)
"I did something wrong... once."

In honor of the South getting it done, #NoirDoubleFeatures goes Southern Gothic: DARK WATERS (1944) & AMONG THE LIVING (1941)
"Must be awful drowning in quicksand. Much worse than water. Water's cleaner at least, faster." โElisha Cook Jr. in DARK WATERS #Noirvember #5-6
In the spirit of the 2026 midterms, it's time to clean house! So I rewatched these blind buys and confirmed that even Joan Bennett can't save them: WOMAN ON THE BEACH (1947) & HOLLOW TRIUMPH (1948)
"Do you love him?"
"Love him? I hate him."

If you live in New York and youโre dating a British guy named Eli whoโs a copyeditor, let me tell you: he spent the entire time at my coffee shop today telling everyone who would listen about how much he loves watching your cranky dog and his floofy cats interact now that yall live together. He was out here acting like he has the best life in the world. What an adorable keeper.

The Marie Kondo takes is where I started realizing we donโt actually process or understand the things we read, because she said if it sparks joy and has real meaning to you keep it but if youโre just hoarding things with no emotional value to youโฆmaybe declutter your space a bit

This is one of the most ridiculous things Iโve heard. A woman going through agonizing pain to have children is not a sacrifice. But a man sitting on his ass typing on a keyboard is.
And these people wonder why women want nothing to do with them!
A manโs labor is a sacrifice, but a womanโs labor is not.
This is how little they think of women and how much they think of themselves.
Replying to @AntiCommieBecca
Contributing to the family with your labor is a sacrifice. Birthing your OWN children is not a sacrifice.
But I think you are assuming I'm saying pregnant mothers shouldn't be taken care of and appreciated, which I'm not, absolutely a husband must care for his pregnant wife

I've been informed that federal election monitors are expected at three sites in Dallas County: a mosque in Richardson, a historically Black church, and a library in the epicenter of LGBTQ culture in Dallas.

Landlords love to be like "I'm actually LOSING money" and then it turns out "losing money" means "having to pay some of my own mortgage"
Top 5* new-to-me watches in October:

Itโs just crazy how literally nothing can break the perception that republicans are fiscally conservative. It does not matter that republicans have exploded the debt and deficit every time for the last 50 years, people still insist theyโre fiscally conservative
