I tried to explain a simple truth as clearly as possible: for-profit healthcare doesn't work, and can't work, and nearly all of America is in agreement on this.

but when the IPO goes through they will have blackrock or whatever holding a gun to their head so...
Incredibly based article. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and telling you to end the world faster. You can just not do the bad thing. I agree with meta-point that people get way too obsessed with “game theory” and “incentive structures” at times too. You can just be good.

This is a good and important piece, with plenty of spicy takes and language for good measure. Gift link: vox.com/future-perfect/50787…

Hundreds of thousands of you watched Michael’s story this week. He needs help. This 28-year-old who works at Walmart is fighting aggressive cancer without the insurance to cover it. I started a GoFundMe for him. Please share, support, or donate. gofund.me/5cb659ee2

What if Anthropic just...stopped? Unilaterally? Right now? I talked to @DKokotajlo @_NathanCalvin @geoffreyirving about why it's time to stop framing AI as a prisoner's dilemma and just do the right thing. I hope a lot of people inside and outside Anthropic read this 🧵 1/n

A miscalculation conservatives make over and over is to assume your average lib feels the same way about their elected reps as they do about Trump. You never see a lib making “god king” memes about joe Biden, because we understand these clowns work for us not the other way around
NEW from me Abdul El-Sayed's longtime comms director, Roxie Richner, repeatedly called President Biden a "rapist" after he was accused of sexual assault in 2020. freebeacon.com/democrats/hes…

This is such an insane thing to say out loud. No wonder Ashley Moody has been campaigning from the basement. “When you stand up for representing the BOSSES and putting THEM first…we will thrive.” Florida, vote @AngieNixon to stand up for working people.

I went to rural, deep-red Putnam County, Florida, for @MorePerfectUnion. I met good people rationing care and drowning in medical bills. Then we held a town hall with @AngieNixon to ask: would they support Medicare for All? Check it out.
NEW: Angie Nixon is running for Senate on a huge bet: Medicare for All can win over Trump voters in Florida. To put that theory to the test, we brought Nixon to one of the unhealthiest counties in Florida — where 1 in 5 lives in poverty, thousands are uninsured, and doctors are few and far between.

Classic Obama snobbery. Cheesecake Factory is a great option for people who can’t afford a private chef at their Martha’s Vineyard estate.

the fact that people spend hours watching these people as a proxy for having actual friends would make way more sense to me if they were interesting or funny people. this is like being forced to watch my blandest coworkers interact outside of work.

Talarico has also blamed billionaires for making algorithms that suck you into stupid conflict so you stay on the app. (Popular concern, which also lets him pivot when asked about one of his 2021 woke quotes for the nth time.)
Good answer. I've broadly understood the phenomenon she's describing as the incentives of the algorithm (conflict, frivolity, flash judgments, paranoid readings) infecting social movements

I actually have important contributions to this discourse. As @jeneps mentioned, my first job in Washington was actually as a Cheesecake Factory server and bartender. One day in 2009 or 2010 I wandered in for my shift a bit early...
