In the United States, 47-year-old Cassandra Goldstein was arrested for drunk driving when police officer Michael Hart violently slammed her against a concrete bench.
The impact left her with multiple facial fractures, several missing teeth and permanent vision loss in one eye. She also needed surgery to have a titanium plate implanted.
Hart, a 19-year veteran of the police force, was fired and sentenced to two years in prison.
Cassandra later received $810,000 in compensation after taking legal action against the police department.
