Stay safe out there
Update: The situation is caused by a malicious ad script by Coinzilla, a crypto ad network - we have disabled it now but there may be some delay due to CDN caching. We are monitoring the situation further. Do stay on alert and don't connect your Metamask on CoinGecko.

immutability is a bug and a feature. Exposing your wallets is a bit more permanent than it looks

to make Twitter decentralised you need infra that's fundamentally friendly to user-first moderation. and that sits on top of a very new direction in social infra
Twitter is too important to be owned and controlled by a single person. The opposite should be happening. Twitter should be decentralized as a protocol that powers an ecosystem of communication products and services.

Meta will charge creators fees of up to 47.5%. "If a creator sells an item for $1.00, then the Meta Quest Store fee would be $0.30 and the Horizon Platform fee would be $0.17, leaving $0.53 for the Creator before any applicable taxes.” This is web2. businessinsider.com/meta-met…

Apps that require you to connect your wallet before seeing anything should be deleted

"In web3, your wallet ID (used for purchases and proposed for logins too) is an undeletable cookie that tracks you both online and off, and one that anyone can retrieve."

The current way of surfing Web3 via chrome extensions and a "super-cookie" across-web apps won't be final form for how this space works. Lots of work ahead :)
I'm glad I got into web3 while UI/UX is still terrible It's forced me to learn a lot of technical things that I'm sure people in 5 years won't need to understand to operate a wallet or interact with an app

unless the network is owned and moderated by users, the moderation team size <<<<<<<< users will always be true

Is a new platform needed?

Twitter has ~ 1500 moderators (for 166 mil users), Facebook has 15K (for 1.7 bil users), YouTube has 10K (for 2.3 bil users). That's 0.0009%, 0.0008%, and 0.0004% of the user base.

Cold wallets are great but not necessarily the cure here to a bigger security and privacy problem. "Wallets" were invented to hold paper currency, then credit cards, and now crypto, but the legacy designs of paper currency days still persists, without as much protection.
The founder of one of the biggest DeFi funds just lost $1 million+ worth of nfts he held in a hot wallet. If that doesn’t make you get a cold wallet I don't know what will.

Giving away your wallet address in web3 is the on-chain equivalent of giving away your credit card number, forever, and letting people watch future purchases on that account (with no opt-in feature on which purchases to show).

you wouldn't give away access to your entire credit history and future to show that you own a gym membership or Venmo your friend, but we do this with wallets

I should probably stop going to sketchy websites to watch live sports on the same computer I have my NFT wallet connected too

If you’re reading this, it’s still early. The next 80% of web3 users are in social.
