Dear Madam FM @nsitharaman : Request your detailed explanation on what happened with the bids for @IDBI_Bank and the allegation of fresh valuation after opening bids. Were this to happen in a private company instead of @FinMinIndia - heads would have rolled by now or a detailed explanation offered!
We all know how @INCIndia has used Banks and financial institutions as personal entities and pressured bank employees to extend loans at their whim, bypassing prudent lending norms.
Let me list a few instances.
- In 1957, Haridas Mundra got money from LIC due to influence by the Congress leaders.
- In 1976, Indira Gandhi's government removed SBI Chairman R.K. Talwar after he refused political pressure to relax lending conditions for a company linked to Sanjay Gandhi's circle.
- Sanjay Gandhi pressured the Central Bank of India over loans to Maruti.
- B. Janardhana Poojary, MoS Finance under Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi — pressured bank employees to issue loans in the 1980s.
- Pawan Kumar Bansal, as a minister in the UPA, pressured Canara Bank to give loans to his family-linked businesses.
The IDBI Bank was handed over to us in poor shape, as IDBI itself was forced to lend to large business groups with close connections to @INCIndia leaders such as Videocon, Winsome, ABG Shipyard, Kingfisher, etc. These turned into bad loans, causing huge losses for IDBI Bank, which we recognised.
The NDA govt led by Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi revived the IDBI bank through professionalism, prudence and recapitalisation of more than Rs 25,000 crores. The IDBI Bank is now poised for its next phase of growth.
All due process has been followed in the IDBI Bank strategic restructuring, and we have already clarified this yesterday.

Cancelling the outgoing Air Chief’s traditional farewell in these circumstances is deeply unfortunate. The dignity of the office deserved better.
Yet we should not stop at outrage. This episode should trigger an uncomfortable but necessary conversation within the Armed Forces. Have clubs, golf courses and recreational facilities meant for the military community become disproportionately the preserve of the officer class?
Our Armed Forces are built on discipline and hierarchy, but hierarchy in command should never become inequality in dignity and welfare. Every person who wears the uniform deserves fairness, respect and reasonable access to institutional facilities, irrespective of rank. I feel that this is an opportunity for reform, not merely outrage.

1600 foreigners in 6 states will be something like 0.0001 percent of the total voters. This is so statistically insignificant that the world will laugh at MoShah for creating SIR anarchy across the country wasting public resources and judicial time. It is deeply ironic that Chenchu, a 13-year-old boy believed to have been part of the mob that murdered Graham Staines and his two sons over suspicions of Christian conversions, under the influence of right-wing extremists Dara Singh and Mahendra Hembram, went on to become a Christian himself as an adult.
His story is a sobering reminder of the dangers of religious hatred and indoctrination — but also that hate is not permanent. A child taught to hate and kill in the name of religion can grow up to embrace the very faith he was taught to hate.
The poison of religious intolerance spread by the RSS-BJP has real, devastating consequences. It destroys lives, distorts young minds and robs children of their innocence. But hatred need not define who they become.
