It cannot be stated often enough or vociferously enough: The Trump administration is helping Russia to conquer Ukraine. The United States of America has taken the side of an aggressor against its innocent victim. We are helping our actual enemies as they prey upon us and our friends. This policy reversal from both the Biden administration and the first Trump administration is a shameful abandonment of principle and of self-interest.

Six years ago, Yaxley Lennon harassed Byline writers Mike Stuchbery and Tim Fenton so badly that they eventually left the country. (He also promised to pay me a visit!) Anyone condoning these kinds of tactics doesn't believe in a free press. It's a license for thuggery.
Tommy Robinson has been found guilty - it is my view that the system has, again, treated him unfairly. We live in dark times.

My friend Jason Scott Warren attended a lecture about climate change from former U.K. Chief Scientist @Sir_David_King last night. He says Sir David talked of the the real possibility of billions of deaths by midcentury. Yes, read that again. That’s just under 25 years. That would mean global collapse essentially - of the global economy, of society. How old will your children be then? I understand that the establishment just listen to each other and not to scientists, but the gamble they are taking is a crime in itself. It is massively reckless and irresponsible. People like @LordAshcroft @DavidGHFrost @afneil @mickbooker of GB News etc have decided the worlds most respected scientists are wrong and that they know better, despite having no scientific training in climate science at all. It is madness that they won’t even speak to these scientists. I don’t think I’ve ever been aware of anything more illogical or reckless in my life.

@Sir_David_King knows what he’s talking about. Looking at the maths it seems likely that global warming will reach 4°C in or around 2055. For that to happen warming just needs to keep rising at the rate it is. @RogerHallamCS21 thinks revolution is inevitable, he has a point.
Replying to @ClimateBen
It’s pretty easy maths. The pace of warming has increased by ~57% ish. The rate of increase is ~0.48°C every decade therefore if the pace & rate stay constant (both will almost certainly increase), then over 17½ years add >2.5°C to that Paris red line of 1.5°C we’ve achieved.

I really hope that European states are waking to the reality that they are on their own with Ukraine--with Canadian help. The US is now their enemy and China is not their friend. They desperately tried to pretend this was not the case, but the time for illusions must be over.

He’s the one I’m rooting for hardest in these midterms. This man absolutely needs to make it into the Senate. I’m fucking sick of everyone tiptoeing around that orange scarecrow in the White House, pretending he’s “sir” and “the President of the United States,” instead of what he actually is: a senile, brazen, shameless, greedy, corrupt piece of shit. A shit Midas who turns everything around him into shit. A man who belongs in prison, not in the Oval Office. Someone needs to start talking to him in the harshest possible terms, loudly and publicly, and keep doing it until the bastard finally drops. This guy looks like he can do it. Go, Abdul El-Sayed, go!

Browder: Siding with Putin against Zelenskyy is against US national interest. 87% of Americans sympathize with Ukraine, and I think 4% sympathize with Putin. It is against global security and everything anyone stands for. 3X

Browder: After a decade in Russia and more than 17 years fighting Putin's regime, I know Russians are not philanthropic. If Russian Umar Kremlev paid $170,000 for Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding, he wants something in return. That just doesn't happen. 2/

Jonty Lambert shown as a coal miner (pitman/hewer) standing outside his home at 10 Kettledrum Street, Gashouse Square, in Stanley, County Durham, England, in 1909. He is holding a pickaxe in one hand and a safety lamp in the other, wearing traditional pit clothes (hoggers and work belt).... He had originally come to Stanley from Swalwell and was living at 10 Kettledrum Street, Gashouse Square. The photograph was taken outside the houses at Jacky’s Pit and is now preserved in the Beamish Museum collection. But 1909 would bring unimaginable tragedy to the Lambert family. Jonty’s 17-year-old son, James Lambert, was working underground at West Stanley Colliery, better remembered locally as the Burns Pit, when disaster struck on 16 February 1909. At approximately 3.45pm, a catastrophic explosion tore through the mine. In total, 168 men and boys lost their lives, making it one of the worst mining disasters in the history of the Durham coalfield. James was working in the Brockwell Seam. Records state that he was burned to death in the explosion. His address was the same house outside which his father was photographed: 10 Kettledrum Street. He was later buried in St Andrew’s Churchyard, Stanley. The West Stanley Colliery had opened in 1832 and eventually worked a number of seams through several shafts, including the Kettledrum Pit. It finally closed in 1936. So when we look at Jonty standing there in his working clothes, we aren't simply looking at an anonymous Edwardian coal miner. We are looking at a father whose 17-year-old son was taken by one of County Durham’s greatest mining tragedies. #archaeohistories

Look at the way President Zelenskyy was greeted by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands - arms open for a hug.
During my meeting with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, I spoke about the lives of our people under constant Russian attacks and our diplomatic efforts with partners to achieve peace. I thank His Majesty for his support and for the meeting. The Netherlands is one of Ukraine’s closest and most reliable partners. We value all the assistance provided. It is important that we can be confident that support for our people will continue. @koninklijkhuis

🇺🇦💥🇷🇺 UKRAJINA VYHNALA RUSKÉ VOJÁKY Z PLYNOVODU. PŘES 30 ZAJATCŮ PŘI OPERACI VELES U KUPJANSKU! Ruští vojáci vylézali z plynovodu poblíž Kupjansku. Uniformy měli pokryté špínou a vzdávali se ukrajinským jednotkám. Ukrajinský sbor Chartija během operace Veles zajal více než 30 ruských vojáků. Operace zahrnovala odvážný podzemní postup dlouhý přes 15 kilometrů. Ruské síly používaly plynovody k přesunu vojáků a zásob mimo dohled ukrajinských dronů. Ukrajina však tuto skrytou trasu obrátila proti nim. Podle výpovědí zajatců strávili ruští vojáci přibližně šest týdnů uvěznění v zablokované části potrubí, než jim došlo jídlo, voda a munice. Stísněný prostor, omezená viditelnost a žádná úniková cesta. 👇 Jak dlouho ještě obstojí ruská podzemní taktika proti ukrajinským protiopatřením? 🇺🇦 Sláva Ukrajině!

1/ Vladimir Putin seems to have decided that protecting his palace at Valdai is more important than protecting Russia's vulnerable factories and oil refineries. A few bold Russian warbloggers are questioning why scarce air defence assets are being diverted for Putin's benefit. ⬇️

Petraeus: There is currently no defense against a drone swarm. High-powered microwave can drop everything, but only out to about two kilometers. In Ukraine, Biletskyi’s Third Army Corps suppressed everything Russia threw at it in the air, so it could still use some armor. 5X

Petraeus: Tanks, infantry, engineers, air defense and electronic warfare can’t survive in the kill zone. A drone can fly into a trench. Anything exposed will be seen. Ukraine’s front line is soldiers underground, resupplied by remotely driven ground vehicles and drones. 2/

In the middle of World War Two, German soldiers in southeastern Poland started avoiding a cluster of villages. They wouldn't go in. They wouldn't take people out for forced labor. They put up warning signs and stayed away. They believed the area was infected with typhus. It wasn't. Two doctors had invented the whole thing. The man behind it was Eugene Lazowski, a young Polish doctor working for the Red Cross in the town of Rozwadów. He was watching the Nazi occupation tear his country apart. Executions. Deportations. People shipped off to labor camps, many never coming back. He wanted to stop it. He had no weapons, no army, and no way to fight. What he had was medicine. His friend and fellow doctor, Stanisław Matulewicz, had discovered something strange. If you injected a person with a harmless, dead strain of a certain bacteria, their blood would test positive for typhus. They wouldn't be sick at all. But on paper, they'd look like they had one of the most feared diseases of the war. And the Germans were terrified of typhus. It spread fast, it killed, and it could tear through an army. When the Germans found it, they quarantined the area and kept their distance. Lazowski realized what that meant. If he could make enough people look infected, the Germans would leave the whole region alone. So he started injecting his patients. He chose carefully. He sent the blood samples to German labs for testing, exactly as the rules required. The results came back positive. Again and again. The Germans declared an epidemic zone. Villages were quarantined. Soldiers kept out. People who would have been seized for forced labor or worse were left alone, because nobody wanted to go near them. Lazowski had to be careful. If too many cases looked fake, someone would ask why nobody was dying. So he spread out the injections over time and kept the outbreak believable. Eventually the Germans did get suspicious. They sent a team of doctors to inspect. Lazowski met them with food and vodka and played the gracious host. He guided them toward the sickest looking, dirtiest patients he could find, in the most crowded rooms. The German doctors, worried about catching typhus themselves, took a few samples and left in a hurry. The tests came back positive. The fake epidemic lasted until the end of the war. Estimates say it may have protected around 8,000 people. Lazowski also secretly helped Jews from the nearby ghetto, giving them medical care at enormous risk. After the war he moved to the United States and became a professor of pediatrics in Chicago. For decades he barely talked about what he'd done. Late in life he finally wrote a memoir. He called it My Private War. He died in 2006. He never fired a shot. He beat the Nazis with a needle and a lab test.
