God willing and if the creek don't rise. I think the environment is too toxic and the GOP campaigners too flat-footed against the Trumpian headwinds. Show me this Tuesday night and I'll be doing shots

Agree with all this. Moderate vs progressive is not the right axis to evaluate candidates (and it’s not how most voters understand themselves.) They want people who will solve their problems competently and who can speak to their emotional reality, not gaslight them by saying “no, you’re wrong, the economy is good” or “that’s a distraction.”
The Democrat factional fighting is a relic of 2016. This election points toward a new liberal fusionism, candidates who combine leftist economic populism with centrist pragmatism. Talarico and Ossoff offer a model on this. The factional stuff is old news, beltway chatter.

It also demonstrates something important: although *true* anti-trans bigots use sports as a wedge issue, the vast majority of Americans who are uncomfortable with trans sports participation are not, actually, trying to drive us into the sea.
Trans people winning in red states while anti-trans ballot props win everywhere is either an indication that voters are ok with trans people but won’t budge on sports/bathroom (bad) or that voters broadly dislike “transgenderism” but not trans people they can name (also bad)

you used to have politicians lose everything in life for being mildly critical of israel. new dawn in america!
A striking stat re AIPAC performance in the midterms. In 2022, almost 70% of its funds went into races where it got the desired result. In 2024, it was 87%. In 2026, that figure is 34%. responsiblestatecraft.org/ai…

wait....I owe Ken Martin an apology. bc all of a sudden having South Carolina get a ton of Democratic investment and campaigning in spring 2028 seems really fucking smart

Worst media coverage of any race in the entire country. There was no issue with black voters or with Jewish democrats and Democrats for Mike Rogers was a fake movement. It all just amounted to one bitter lady crashing out bc she got beat.
Mike Rogers ended up at 5% in Detroit, short of the 7% he got in 2024. 'Dems for Mike Rogers' wasn't really a thing there.

Children's place in America as status symbol, site of vicarious life for parents, and minimal rights holders means that what people may find icky but tolerate for adults becomes deeply difficult to stomach for minors. I hate hate hate to say it but we may have to soft pedal them

Bernie, AOC, and later Zohran worked extremely hard to move the party towards economic populism, embrace candidates early who could build campaigns and name recognition well ahead of the primaries, and keep progressives united while congressional dems held the line against Trump
Hard to overstate the impact of the 2025 Fighting Oligarchy tour on Tuesday night’s results

we are gonna build so much fricking energy infrastructure
When you look under the hood, you see how *specific* the red-state Senate Dem energy proposals are. They all want to revive the solar and wind tax credits. They all want to make data centers pay full freight. Annie Andrews even endorses permitting reform at length:

There is a very real, understandable impulse to just roll one's eyes and say "well Democrats aren't going to do anything anyway" but the stakes for human lives are just too high for that. I genuinely think total cynicism can be just as self-defeating as libbed out naïveté. This is a generational mandate for real change and we have to demand/require that our representatives actually do something with it

I think people are way too married to the idea that everything is cyclical and repeats itself. That's just not true. The only motion of time is forward. I don't think it's productive to assume there is zero progress good or bad ever. There, literally, is only the future.

while people are learning lessons from 2006-2008-2010, take another one: pass redistricting reform ASAP. this might be the last time in ages you can count to a working majority in Congress who don’t owe their seats to gerrymanders (because so many fizzled or busted last night)
